1902 CBG holds Youth Self Development Program in Mombasa – October 2018

13th – 14th OCTOBER 2018

“Seek knowledge from cradle to grave.”

Islam has always encouraged its followers to pursue learning in all its forms. Building on leadership skills is a critical element of preparing youth for entry into adulthood.

CBG Youth Development Program is a customized program aimed to equip the youths of today with the aptitude to develop, set personal and vocational goals, and have the self-esteem to carry them out.

The recent Youth Development programme organized in Mombasa on the 13th and 14thOctober 2018 in collaboration with Africa Youth Network along with the help of Ithna asheri Young Men’s Union (IYMU) and facilitated by Br. Shabbirhussein Khalfan and Sr. Neelam Jiwa, was a roaring success.

The workshop was attended by 27 dynamic and vibrant youths of the community of both genders. Various challenges faced by the youths in the Community were deliberated upon and many suggestions shared on the ways to overcome these challenges.

The program motivated and mobilized the youths to turn shared ideas into a reality with the help of mentors and the leaders of the community.

It is our earnest hope that they will keep this learning journey going, enhance their personal effectiveness and also be a benefit to their organization and community.

Feedback from Participants

  • An eye opening and thought-provoking session.
  • I had the pleasure of being a part of the Youth development programme last weekend and I can definitely say it was one of the most insightful workshops that I’ve attended. It changed my perspective on aspects that I would otherwise think negatively about and made me realize how important it is to be self-aware in order to grow. Apart from that we also learnt a whole other viewpoint on how we see others and the impact they have on us as individuals. A major point that came up was the positive effects that self-acceptance would have on a person and how we use that to better ourselves and our community!
  • For me personally the self-development journey was very inspiring, I got to know some things from other people or from myself that I might not have known before. I feel like I left the room on Sunday, a changed person. I left everything that I didn’t want to take home with me behind, and took back all the things that inspired me. I’m grateful to the people who organize such events for tomorrow’s generation.

On behalf of the Capacity Building Group (CBG) of AFED, we wish to extend our appreciation to Africa Youth Network (AYN) for conducting such an essential workshop towards raising self-awareness and reaching out to the youths in the society; to Mombasa Jamaat for availing us the venue and amenities for this training session and to Ithna asheri Young Men’s Union (IYMU) for their untiring efforts and superb organization.

We wish to acknowledge the Africa Federation Secretariat for their encouragement, cooperation and for the financial support enabling us to organize such training workshops regularly.

Lastly, a big THANK YOU to all the youths who participated in this 2-day workshop. We salute your time, efforts and vibrant energy brought to this event, making it a success. You are the future of tomorrow.
