Refreshers for LDP Alumni

The Africa Federation (AFED) in collaboration with the World Federation (WF) conducted a Leadership Development Program (LDP) in Nairobi – Kenya hosted by Nairobi Jamaat (SAAJ) from 25th to 28th November 2016. Seven facilitators from AFED and WF CBG were involved in this program, they were; Dr. Akber Mohamedali and Maria Pattinson from London, Shabbirhussein Khalfan, Mumtaz Ladak, Shama Dewji from Tanzania, Neelam Jiwa and Tahera Shivji from Kenya.

The program attracted 25 participants from several Jamaats of Africa Federation, which for the first time included the leadership of the Jamaat.

rd & 4th of December 2016, in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania, at the KSIJ Dar-es-Salaam Ladies’ Imambargah.

As the Africa Youth Network (AYN) is gearing up for the AFED Youth Camp for girls of our community to be held in Morogoro in from 19th to 29th December this year, the mentors for the Camp need to be developed and thus must undergo two training programs in order to qualify to be a mentor for the participants converging in Morogoro for the Camp.

The two training programs in the planned are Youth Development Programme to begin with and Mentor Development Programme to follow.
The Youth Development Programme (YDP) was conducted in Dar es Salaam over the weekend of 5th & 6th November with a record participation of 25 girls from the following cities: Arusha, Dar es Salaam, Mombasa, Mwanza, Nairobi, Tanga and Zanzibar. The age range of these girls which was a criterion for them to apply as a mentor was 19 to 24 years.


For the first time within its own facilitation resources, the Capacity Building Group of Africa Federation conducted a Youth Development Programme (YDP) for the Graduates of Husayni Madrasah Girls Section, upon request of the Madrasah Management and Tabligh Committee of Dar es Salaam Jamaat.
28 Girls ranging from 16 years to 18 years among the graduates from this year participated in this leadership development programme, which is specially designed and created for the youth. The programme was held over the weekend of 29th & 30th October 2016, facilitated by Sis. Shama Dewji and Br. Shabbir Hussein Khalfan, the AFED CBG Facilitators.

This is further to our Circular JMT/35/16 of 5th November 2016 notifying all of the Leadership Development Programme (LDP) to be held in Nairobi from 25th to 29th November 2016.
Attached please find the Registration and Participation Forms which all interested participants age 25 and above are requested to complete and submit to the Capacity Building Group and Nairobi Jamaat respectively within the stipulated timelines.
Please note a limited number of seats are available for this important and useful leadership training programme. Intending participants are requested to submit the duly completed forms at the earliest to avoid disappointments.

A two and a half day Mentor Development Program was held in Mombasa organized by the Capacity Building Group of Africa Federation. 

The program was facilitated by Dr. Akber Mohamedali, Br. Yasin Rahim and Mrs. Zinnat Mohamedali, Facilitators from the World Federation Capacity Building Group.

15 LDP Alumni from Bukoba, Dar es Salaam, London, Mombasa and Nairobi, participated in the above program.

The core focus of the program was to have a clear and deeper understanding of the mentoring process, mentor and mentee relationship, the importance of reflective practice in the mentoring process etc. The participants were exposed to the Egan's Skilled Helper Model for Mentoring and the core focus was practice, practice and practice.

The Arusha LDP Alumni group had an opportunity to upgrade themselves through a session on "Communication with Self Awareness” held on 16th January 2016.

The short two hour Session was conducted by Br. Shabbirhussein Khalfan, Sr. Shama Dewji and Sr. Mumtaz Ladak, the facilitators from CBG of Africa Federation.

Self-Awareness was made possible through small talk, anticipating problems and suggesting solutions by involving people.  To further the communication process, calculative moves on a “to-do” list delegated properly, resulted in all those present, smiling their way towards progress.

The Arusha LDP Alumni are hopeful that this upgrading session will assist them to understand each other better, to be able to improve their understanding of the community at large.
