“In the distant age and climate, the tragic scene of the death of Hussein will awaken the sympathy of the coldest reader,” Edward Gibbon – English Historian and Member of Parliament wrote in ‘The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire’, London, 1911, Vol 5, p 391-392.
BILAL Hall
Activities organized by Bilal Muslim Mission of Kenya for the first 10 days included a series of 10 day majaalis conducted after Maghribayn prayers at Bilal Hall Mombasa. Informative and educative lectures were delivered by renowned scholars on various topics related to the importance of remembering the martyrs of Karbala, lessons from the sacrifice of Imam Husayn (a.s) into our day-to-day lives, etc.
BMMK Rural Centres
Similar majaalis were conducted across all the BMMK centres. Centre muallims and other scholars from diverse institutions such as Madrasah Amirul Mu’minin Matuga took leadership of the majaalis to the indigenous community.
The Mission also organized special sessions for ladies after dhuhrayn prayers. These sessions were led by centre Muballighat / Students from Zahra Madrasah – Mombasa and WIPAHS, Tanzania. The local women benefitted from these sessions through sharing of knowledge and experiences with their sisters.
On Ashura Day, Juloos processions were observed across all the BMMK Centres. In areas where centres were not very far from each other, mu’mineen converged at a common meeting ground and conducted amaals of Ashura together. At the peak of the programs, lectures were delivered by Centre Muallims.
Special duas for all marhumeens, sick mu’mineen and all brethren in faith were recited at the end of the programs. Meals were served to mu’mineen. During the juloos processions, free juice / drinking water were situated at the main road connecting different centres. Here, a glass of cold juice / water was served to all passersby irrespective of their faiths in that hot midday sun on the day of Ashura.
