The Africa Youth Network (AYN) has launched a Poetry (Spoken/Word) Competition during this month of Muharram, in keeping up with its mission – Cultivating and strengthening youth networks to develop the youth for tomorrow: educated, socially aware and vibrant followers of the Ahlulbayt (AS)”
The Competition is open for all Members of the Community in Africa of the age group of 12 – 35 years.
Below are the details of the Competition:
Theme: “The Eternal Revolution of Karbala”
- How does Karbala inspire us today?
- What transformation does the event of Karbala brings out in us?
- What can we learn from the Heroes of Karbala to become true followers of Imam Mahdi (ATFS)?
Requirements:
- Age: 12 to 35 years
- Can be written in any language or combination of languages
- The poem has to include the line: “Every day is Ashura; Every land is Karbala”
- The poem has to be performed/recited (up to 3 minutes maximum)
The poem and presentation/recital will be assessed on the following criteria:
- Content and relevance of theme
- Style and literary technique
- Performance and presentation
The video of the performance and the written text of the poem will be sent to youth@africafederation.org
The prize – a Ziarat trip to Iraq in April 2015 – has been kindly sponsored by Spiritual Journeys and Alhaj Murtaza Kanani of Nairobi.
AYN are also in the process of contacting Ahlulbayt TV, and Safeer TV/IBN to have a slot where the top 3 or 4 best poems can be presented.
The Competition will not only help identify and develop talents within the community, it will also provide a platform for propagation of the message of Karbala.
