The session’s objectives were to prepare the mentors for the AFED Girls Youth Camp –Morogoro 2016. The aim was to equip them with the necessary skills required to be an effective mentor and understand and practise these concepts to develop effective mentoring performance and relationships.
A total of 14 youth girls attended the programme from Arusha, Dar-es-Salaam, Mombasa, Nairobi, Tanga and Zanzibar Jamaats, all forming part of the AFED Youth Camp – Morogoro 2016 team, who will be mentoring and overall administrating at the Camp.
The program was facilitated by AFED CBG team led by Br Shabbirhussein Khalfan and supported by Sis. Shama Dewji.
Feedback from the Mentors: What I liked the most was….
- The fact that all my confusions and fears were addressed and I am now able to leave confident knowing the roles of a mentor.
- What I liked the most was that I got this opportunity to be a part of this mentor group, feels proud, feels blessed. Thank you to the facilitators & admins who thought I was capable of this & I will NOT in any CASE let them DOWN.
- The levels of discussion & the insight gained into mentoring, Reflection circles, interactive sessions, practical activities and games.
- That the mentors bonded VERY VERY well, we realized we’re ONE, and we can rely on each other for everything (most importantly moral support) at camp.
- Thank you for such a lovely time and thank you for equipping us with all the necessary skills we required.

The programme would start off by 8.30 am on both days, ending at around 6 pm.
The main modules that were covered during the mentoring session included:
- Understanding who a mentor is and what mentoring is

Reflection Circle
A trusting, supportive and confidential environment was created within the program to ensure full exploration and awareness of self and the current state of each individual participant in their leadership journey.
The programme also included a session on Sunday where all the details of the camp were explained to mentors, as well as their roles and responsibilities and their expectations.
