YOUTH LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME (YDP)
27TH & 28TH FEBRUARY 2016, NAIROBI KENYA
The Africa Youth Network (AYN) in collaboration with the Africa Federation Capacity Building Group (CBG) organized the first Youth Leadership Development Programme (YDP) held in Africa on the 27th and 28th February 2016, in Nairobi, Kenya. A total of 21 youths from Arusha and Nairobi attended the session.
The aim of the development workshop was to allow participants to understand themselves better, unlock their potential to serve the community, to realize their own leadership styles and enhance and evolve their skills.
A trusting, supportive and confidential environment was created within the program to ensure full exploration and awareness of self and the current state of each individual participant in their leadership journey.
The program was facilitated by Sis Mumtaz Ladak, Sis Shama Dewji and Br Shabbirhussein Khalfan. Each day would begin at 9.00 a.m. and end at 6.00 p.m.
Some of the various concepts that were covered over the four days using processes to enhance the learning included:
- Capacity vs Capability
- Authenticity, Respect vs Tolerance
- Understanding Self by applying the Iceberg Theory
- Understanding and respecting the differences in others.
- Leadership Skills
- Communication Skills and Active Listening
- Empathy Skills
- Introduction to Learning – Andragogy and Pedagogy
Closing Ceremony
The Ceremony held on Sunday evening the 28th of February was coordinated and conducted by the AYN Secretary Br. Aliraza Sumar and the YDP participants themselves. The presentation ceremony included skits, which manifested the breakthrough and enlightenment the participants experienced.
The Function was attended by the Vice Chairman of Nairobi Jamaat Alhaj Mohamedraza Nanji, the AFED Kenyan Trustee Alhaj Ebrahim Jaffer, Chairlady of Nairobi Jamaat Taherabai Shivji and AFTAB Chairman Seyed Hassan Naqvi.
We wish to thank Br. Kabir Chandoo, Br. Yazdaan Assaria, Br. Mujahid Kalyan and Br. Murtaza Manji who volunteered during the event. We extend our appreciation to all the participants for attending and contributing positively during the session.
