The Chairman of Africa Federation (AFED), Alhaj Shabir Najafi is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Shahnaaz Kassam Sharif of Mombasa as the Chairman of the Central Health Board for the new term 2019-2022.
Brief Profile:
Dr. Shahnaaz Sharif acquired Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBChB) from the University of Nairobi in 1977 and a Master degree in Internal Medicine in 1985.
He also holds a Graduate Diploma in Hygiene and Tropical Medicine in 2006 and a Master of Science (MSc) in Health Systems in 2007 from the University of London.
He works as the Chief Executive Officer of Jaffery Medical Centre, Mombasa since 2014 after having worked with the Ministry of Health of Kenya from 1985 to 2014 serving in various capacities as follows:
1985 -1994: Medical Superintendent/Provincial Physician, Provincial Hospital, Nyeri, District Medical Officer of Health, Nyeri
1994 – 2004: Provincial Medical Officer, Coast, Mombasa
2004 – 2007: Provincial Medical Officer, Nairobi
2007 – 2014: Director of Public Health
He has been awarded various Awards for his services to the Society by the Government of Kenya and international Organizations, they are:
- 2012 Honor Award International from CDC for work on aflatoxin surveillance and Monitoring.
- 2008 Leadership Award from Flour Fortification Initiative for leadership in flour fortification in Kenya.
- 2007 Moran of Burning Spear (MBS) by the President of Kenya.
- 1997: Order of Grand Warrior (OGW) by the President of Kenya.
Membership and community activities:
- Board Member of Mombasa County Health Board (2016 – to-date).
- Member of International Centre for Reproductive Health (ICRH), Kenya. (2009 – to-date)
- Member of Kenya Association of Physicians.
