“And He has subjected to you, as from Him, all that is in the heavens and on earth: behold, in that are signs indeed for those who reflect.” (45:13)
What is Leadership Development Programme (LDP)? And does it apply to me?
A common question asked by many whenever the advert is aired or when approached to join the 4-day training session.
Is it only for the Leaders of our communities, organizations or businesses? NO!
In short, LDP is not for people with certain positions or skill sets nor is it about learning a new concept that ends at the end of 4 days session but an ongoing journey of discovering yourself and causing a transformation from within to be a more confident, capable, and better equipped YOU to take on new challenges.
The 14th LDP recently organized by the Africa Federation in Dar es Salaam from 6th to 9th December 2019 brought together 27 vibrant and energetic individuals from myriad walks of life; from student to homemakers, businessmen & women to doctors to social workers contributing towards each other’s growth and learning.
Approximately 40 hours of learning spread over 4 days challenged mindsets and encouraged growth by pushing individuals out of their comfort zone. The module material focused on exploring new dimensions of oneself and relating to others, decision making, integrity, planning and visioning. Basically, putting knowledge and skillsets into good practice for the benefit of the community and to fulfil one’s duty towards his Creator (SWT). The various concepts were creatively inculcated by means of roleplay, group discussions and reflective learning.
The end of 4 days, saw the Capacity Building Facilitators – Br. Shabbirhussein Khalfan, Sr. Shama Dewji, Sr. Mumtaz Ladak, Sr. Sofia Bharwani, Sr. Sididka Hirji and Sr. Zainab Jagani receiving a standing ovation from the participants whom they aided in realizing their potential and bolster their learning process and growth. The participants testimonials at the closing ceremony bore testament on how LDP has and will continue to impact their life after the programme. This was followed by a certification ceremony attended by the Office Bearers and Board Chairmen of Africa Federation and Dar es Salaam Jamaat.
The AFED Capacity Building Group (CBG) wish to accord their utmost gratitude and appreciation to the Africa Federation Office Bearers, Secretariat and Dar es Salaam Jamaat management for their encouragement and unwavering support.
A special thanks to the youths from Developing Society who worked tirelessly to organize the logistics and ensure smooth running of the program.
Our deep appreciation also goes to each and every participant who took time off from their busy schedules to further their personal and future development.
The Vice Chairman of Africa Federation, Alhaj Aunali Khalfan at the closing ceremony paid tribute to Alhaj Asgar bhai Bharwani who passed away in Dar es Salaam on 11th November 2019. Describing Asgar Bhai as a distinguished leader who served both, Kampala and Dar es Salaam Jamaats with great dedication and compassion. He was instrumental in several developments which our community is enjoying today; a philanthropist had keen interest in promoting education amongst the Community children with significant support to Madrasahs and religious education. He supported several developmental projects, including the Bilal Udowe Mosque by himself and Mrs. Gulbanu bai Bharwani. Aunali Bhai expressed AFED’s and CBG’s appreciation to Mrs. Gulbanu bai and said they will always cherish the memories of Marhum Asgar bhai.
CBG remembers an ardent supporter of LDP who is no longer amidst us today. The 14th LDP is a humble dedication in memory of Marhum Asgar Bhai Bharwani who was but more than a past president of Dar es Salaam Jamaat and a visionary humble leader, leaving his mark forever before departing this temporary world for heavenly abode.
Marhum was the guest of honor at the last LDP held in Dar es Salaam on 13th to 16th May 2017 (seen in the above photographs).
May Allah (SWT) rest his soul in eternal peace, and grant him heavenly abode in proximity of the 14 Masoomeen (A.S.). Ameen.
A request for Sura-e-Fateha for the maghferat of Marhum Asgar Bhai and all the Marhumeen.

January 2020
- I joined the programme to gain knowledge and get a certificate but little did I know I was going on a journey of a lifetime. A journey that exposed my inner fears, but also mirrored my strengths, abilities and most importantly I got to know the actual me. LDP showed me layers to my Fitrah (my inner soul) and my purpose and direction in life. The reflections from this course will better enable me to understand myself and the people around me. From here my journey starts infact it has already started. You have to let go of who you are to become who you will be.
- I came with a closed mindset because I did not want to speak in public. LDP taught me about authenticity, I was hiding behind my mask and not being true to myself which was not being fair to myself. The LDP team kept pushing me out of my comfort zone and helped me grow.
- Standing infront of a public and speaking is in itself a testimonial that LDP has enable me to grow. LDP made me aware of myself and others around me.
- This program enabled me to receive feedback positively about myself. Receiving feedback is actually good as within it lies a vision for me to be better and achieve something.
- What impacted me most during LDP was the Political intelligence & integrity as it made me aware of what I speak, how I speak, to whom I speak and how the message is perceived by the recipient. Having this knowledge has influenced me to be a better person.
