“Live amongst people in such a manner that if you die, they weep over you and if you are alive, they crave for your company” Imam Ali (AS)
Today marks 20 years since Mulla Asgharali M. M. Jaffer (Mulla Asghar as he was fondly known), former President of The World Federation passed away in the office of the World Federation at Stanmore on 21st March 2000 while in service of our community affairs.
Mulla Asghar is remembered for his incredible knowledge, leadership, wisdom and piety – He was an eminent and courageous leader of our Community who made great impact not only within but also outside the Khoja Community. He was a driving force behind the establishment of The World Federation of KSIMC in 1976 in the U.K.
During his 24 years of leadership at the World Federation, he launched many initiatives and projects to help the worldwide community in several spheres, i.e. education, housing, health and other charitable activities to uplift communities out of poverty. He nurtured a passionate cadre of young leaders who would ensure the continuity of his vision and deal with the challenges to come after him.
Mulla Asghar served the community from his young age, in many areas. From 1971 to 1974 he was the Hon. Secretary of the Africa Federation during Alhaj Mohamedali Meghji’s tenure at the helm of the Africa Federation, later from 1974 to 1980 he became the Chairman of the Africa Federation.
The legacy that Mulla Asghar left behind in the institutions he served during his lifetime continues to serve the community and humanity at large and is a symbol of Khoja unity and strength. The World Federation Slogan – “We Exist To Serve” serves as a beacon for the selfless services of the devoted leaders and administrators who continue to follow the pathway left behind by Marhum Mulla Asghar. We pray to Allah (SWT) to raise his status – Ameen.
On this occasion, we encourage our community members and youths in particular to read the book written by Marhum Alhaj Hassan Ali M. Jaffer – “Relentless Endeavours – Reflections on Mulla Asgharali M. M. Jaffer (1936 – 2000)”.
