STRONG INTEREST INVENTORY
One of the focus areas of the Africa Federation (AFED) Education Board (EB) for the term 2019 -2022 is to support individual students with effective career counseling mechanisms. AFED EB administers the Strong Interest Inventory assessments (SII), which has been able to secure with the support of The World Federation. The SII are administered by accredited practitioners.
The SII test is an assessment that helps people match their interests with potential educational, career, and leisure activities, using an individual’s preferences in a variety of areas to aid them in discovering what they would most enjoy doing with their work and their free time.
The SII uses Holland codes, which are personality types created to measure an individual’s “type” and match it with a list of career choices that would be a good fit for that individual.
General Occupational Themes
The General Occupational Themes (GOTs) show you what you are most interested in as a person. It shows you in very general and broad terms what you really like to do.
The diagram above reflects the six possible types of work and occupational themes.
The SII is so much more than just an interest matching tool. It is a complete Psychometric Assessment that covers things about your personality:
- Your Personal Work Style
Whether you prefer to work alone or prefer working with and helping people?
- Your Leadership Style
Do you take charge more or lead by example?
- What your Learning Style is
Are you more academic or hands on?
- Your preference for Risk Taking
Do you prefer to play it safe or enjoy new ideas and taking chances?
- Your Team Orientation
Do you prefer to solve problems on your own or do you prefer collaborating on
team goals?
EB has been rolling out the SII for a couple of years now. Below table summarizes the number of tests administered in different jamaats from the year 2016 to present.
