Apart from the famous Zanzibar, Lamu and Bagamoyo Khoja settlement in the late 19th Century, our forefathers also settled in Southern Tanzania. Amongst the notable settlement are Kilwa, Mikindani, Mtama, Mingoyo, Newala and Tunduru.
Some of these Khoja Mosque and Imamabargah have collapsed beyond recognition while others are being used by Bilal Community, albeit in desperate need of repair.
The Bilal Muslim Mission Tanzania Chairman Hussein Karim, with Aziz bhai Rajani and Sheikh Msabah visited these centres in Southern Tanzania.
Tunduru
Kilwa
Kilwa was a major port and trading hub for the Southern Tanzania, being second to Mikindani in Mtwara.
Mtama
Mingoyo
Newala
The Bilal management wish to thank Aziz bhai Rajani and Mustafa bhai Rajani (Fast Track Tanzania) for arranging the road trip that was almost 2300 kilometers up and down to all these places in Mainland Tanzania.
Momineen who wish to assist in the restoration work of these centres are requested to contact AFED Secretariat or Bilal Muslim Mission of Tanzania offices in Dar-es-Salaam.
Let us remember our elders who built these centres to serve the community in those days and for the future generation in maintaining the faith as well as Azadari of Imam Husayn (as), in the age where there was no internet, no flights and all they had to build with, was the meagre funds they raised from their small retail business selling pilipili bizari.
Please remember them and all the past leaders and volunteers with Sura-e-Fateha.
