When it comes to the world of knowledge, teachers are the torchbearers in showing us the path to the future by means of proper guidance.
A good teacher knows the proper methods to teach and guides students in the right direction, as well as understanding the theoretical and conceptual knowledge of the subject they teach. Teachers are valuable assets of modern society and develop the future of the next generation.
It is important to understand that teaching is an evolving skill because a good teacher like a good student keeps on learning within the framework of information. Teaching and learning go hand in hand & teaching is truly lifelong which makes it important for schools and madrasahs to immensely emphasize in the professional development of the trainers as a well-trained teacher will deliver the subject content professionally and effectively.
With this in focus, the Husayni Madrasah of Dar es Salaam in collaboration with Capacity Building Group took an initiative to organize a workshop for Madrasah teachers of the boys’ and girls’ section facilitated by Sr. Shazia Yusufali from Orlando.
Sister Shazia has a Bachelors in Arts and Animation and is currently pursuing her Masters in Curriculum Development and Technology from K-20. She is also a teacher of the graduating class in the Orlando Madrasah and a founder of the Astro Lab Initiative under HIC. She is mother of 2 kids, whom she passionately homeschools.
The workshop held at AFED Towers Training Centre on 14th and 16th June was attended by 80 teachers split into 2 batches. The course enlightened teachers on the different instructional theories as well as implementing them into class planning. In addition to this, teachers were trained on how to transition their classes from passive to active learning.
The teachers exhibited keen interest and zeal which made the sessions even more interesting and productive as they were made to experience the session through different methods of training like group work which all made for an enjoyable and informative course. Teachers got to get a hang of innovative pedagogy, interactive assessment techniques and use of differentiation in the classroom to enliven the teaching-learning process. They were guided on the importance of being aware of the different kind of learners under their care and methods of all-inclusive learning.
GROUP ACTIVITY
The course ended with a few tips on how to enhance their presentation skills which was further enriched with a collective activity.
