A consultative meeting between Africa Federation (AFED) office bearers with the Central Bilal Board (CBB), Bilal Muslim Mission of Kenya (BMM K) and Bilal Muslim Mission of Tanzania (BMM T) was held in Dar-es-Salaam on Friday 10th March 2023 at AFED Tower conference room. The meeting was organized by CBB in collaboration with the AFED Secretariat in Dar es Salaam.
The Chairman of CBB, Alhaj Mohamed Hemani, heading the external Tabligh portfolio was joined by the Chairman of BMM T, Alhaj Hussein Karim and the of BMM K, Alhaj Iqbal Sunderji, he was accompanied by the Hon. Treasurer of BMM K, Alhaj Hussein Khaki, the Hon. Secretary of BMM K, Alhaj Mohamedhussein Somji and the Asst. Secretary/Treasury of BMM K, Alhaj Akber Kassamali.

The meeting was chaired by Alhaj Amine bhai Nassor, AFED Chairman and thereafter by Alhaj Aunali Khalfan, Vice Chairman. The one-day meeting covered several topics concerning BMM T, BMM K and the future plans. On the topic of the current constitutions of the three Bilal Institutions, it was agreed that all three constitutions, BMM K, BMM T and including Bilal Muslim Mission of Uganda require urgent reviews.
The idea of the exchange of visits between the Bilal Muslim Missions helps in learning best practices from each other, and this practice should be encouraged. It was also suggested that all Bilal Institutions in the region should meet atleast once a year to discuss important matters concerning external Tabligh development, training of Muballighs, Hawza, cost management, good governance, media and publicity including the challenges faced by Bilal.

Both, BMM K and BMM T Chairmen made presentations pointing out on the successes and the challenges they face at their respective areas of operations; this was followed by a round table discussion to help come up with solutions to some of the challenges faced.
During the visits to the Centres in Tanzania, BMM K officials observed some best practices, both in management and operations in Tanzania which they would replicate these in Kenya.
BMM T has offered a management course to Muballighs after they complete their course in the Hawza so they can become qualified teachers/administrators and improve their organizational & management skills.
An action plan was agreed upon and both BMM K and BMM T heads would come up with the plan and strategies to take the two Institutions to higher level of success and progress.

The Central Bilal Board records its appreciation to AFED Secretariat for organizing and felicitating this meeting and looks forward to more such meetings.
