In the record of history, the year 1961 marked a significant chapter for the Africa Federation as its distinguished delegation embarked on a journey to the scenic landscapes of Madagascar and Mauritius, leaving an indelible imprint on the two Islands. Tasked with finalizing pending meetings in Madagascar, the delegation encountered a detour, prompting a regrouping of its members into two sections.
Haji Issoufaly Fazul Cassam Chenai from Madagascar, Haji Jaffer Rahim from the Africa Federation Delegation, and Haji Mohammadrafiq Somji who was the AFED Administrative Secretary at that time, committing to oversee the pending works, chose to stay back in Madagascar. Meanwhile, the Chairman of Africa Federation Haji Ebrahim Sheriff Dewji and the Vice-Chairman Haji Mohamedali Shariff Jiwa embarked on a journey aboard the Air France Super Constellation plane, setting their course for Mauritius on the memorable day of Wednesday, 13th September 1961.
The plane touched down on the enchanting Island of Reunion before gracing the shores of Port Louis at around quarter past seven in the evening. A warm welcome awaited the delegation, as nearly 90 members of the local Khoja Community (Jamaat) gathered, located 30 miles away from the town. Mulla Kassamali Esmail, serving as both mentor and Jamaat President, adorned the guests with flower garlands and introduced them to the community brothers. Accommodations were graciously provided at the residence of Hassanali bhai Pirbhai, a prominent and leading member of the Jamaat and son-in-law of Mulla Kassamali.
Post-Namaz rituals and a delightful dinner, the guests engaged in meaningful discussions till midnight, gaining insights into the Federation's endeavors. On Thursday, 14th September 1961, amidst the enchanting backdrop of Mauritius, the guests were treated to a comprehensive tour. Mulla Kassamali and Hassanali bhai curated an experience, showcasing the shops belonging to the community members and touring the town. An afternoon expedition beyond the town boundaries revealed the Island's breathtaking beauty, featuring the world's third-largest garden, boasting a myriad of trees, including one that blooms once every hundred years.
The night unfolded with a majlis (religious speech), hosted at Mulla Kassamali’s residence also an Imambara (Religious Centre). Mulla Saheb, at the guests' behest, recited the Majlis. Following this, the Chairman of Africa Federation Haji Ebrahim Sheriff Dewji delivered a poignant speech outlining the Federation's rich history and impactful work.
