Central Bilal Board Officials Visits Bilal Centres in Bujumbura, Burundi

A delegation from the Central Bilal Board recently travelled to Bujumbura in Burundi for a tabligh trip. The delegation comprised of Central Bilal Board Chairman Alhaj Mohamed bhai Hemani, Bilal Muslim Mission Tanzania Chairman Alhaj Hussein bhai Karim and Bilal Muslim Organization Uganda Chairman Alhaj Afzalali Bhimani. The visit provided the delegation an opportunity to learn about and assess external tabligh activities being undertaken in Burundi. This was the first visit by the present Central Bilal Board (CBB) officials to Burundi.

The delegation was received in Bujumbura by Alhaj Mohammed Abbas Habib and Alhaj Irshad Manji, Chairman and Vice-Chairman respectively of Bujumbura Jamaat.

The delegation met with the office bearers and members of the Jamaat, discussing various tabligh activities in and around Bujumbura, where they learned about the city's mosques, madrassahs, and Shia organizations operating independently as tabligh institutions.

Jaffery Welfare Society:

Under the supervision of the Jamaat, a committee known as Jaffery Welfare, is led by Alhaj Zuher Bashir Jetha (Hussein bhai) and Alhaj Hur Ali Fazal, they operate a school in the Lukago Region. The school not only provides secular education but also conducts tabligh activities with the help of a local Sheikh. We are grateful to the Chairman of Bujumbura Jamaat and other members of the managing committee who provided us with some information on the state of affairs of external tabligh activities being carried out in Burundi.

  • The school caters to students from the local community.

  • Classes currently range from Primary 1 to Primary 6.

  • The school is partly funded by the Wish Foundation, with any shortfall covered by Bujumbura community members.

This school serves as a vital institution for education and tabligh activities in the region, and its efforts are commendable.

Alhaj Mohammed Abbas Habib accompanied the delegation to visit several mosques and madrassas, which were built by local Shaykhs with assistance from individual people from abroad but now stand empty with little meaningful activities.

  • Masjid Nkomo Ismail

  • Al Zahra Mosque

  • Masjid e Sahebuz Zaman (‘A)

  • Masjid Amirul Momineen Ali ibn Abi Talib (‘A)

The delegation also paid a visit to Murrabbi Alhaj Abdul Hussein Habib (Duru-Duru), the 94-year-old pioneer in the tabligh field, who shared his experiences and challenges, including facing hardships and court cases. Above in the photograph is Murrabbi Alhaj Abdul Hussein Habib.

Alhaj Mohamed bhai Hemani would like to extend his gratitude to the Bujumbura Jamaat Managing Committee, members of the Jaffery Welfare Society as well as Alhaj Salim bhai Somji, Alhaj Roshanali bhai Sherali Merali, Alhaj Mohamedraza Jaffer Habib (Aghajaan) and Alhaj Irshad Manji (Vice Chairman of Bujumbura Jamaat), for their warm and welcoming hospitality and for providing insights towards Tabligh.

Alhaj Mohamed bhai Hemani also acknowledged the efforts of Bujumbura Jamaat office bearers and members and committees in spreading the awareness of Ahlulbayt (‘A). He observed that there are opportunities to organize tabligh activities in a centralized manner in Burundi under the umbrella of the Africa Federation Central Bilal Board.

We pray for the well-being of our community members in Bujumbura and will continue to support them enhancing their efforts and endeavours in spreading the deen of the Ahlulbayt (‘A).
