Education and Capacity Building Boards Jointly Conducts Workshops in Kigali

REF: EB/NL/57/24-25                                                 DATE: 18th November 2024

The Africa Federation Education Board (EB), in collaboration with the Capacity Building Board (CBB) conducted several impactful workshops with the youths and Madrassa Teachers in Kigali from 9th to 10th November, 2024.

Education Board provided psychometric tests and personalized one-on-one counselling designed to help students make informed decisions about their future career paths. A total of 15 students attended, along with their parents. Sajida Master, a certified career counsellor accredited in the Strong Interest Inventory, offered valuable insights into various career options and equipped students with effective techniques for researching potential careers. The goal of this initiative was to empower youth with the necessary tools and knowledge as they navigate their educational journeys.

A notable trend observed during the sessions was the preference of students to pursue their studies locally in Rwanda, a move that Africa Federation Education Board encourages and supports. Most parents were receptive and supportive of their children’s career aspirations, though some expressed concerns about the practicality and sustainability of certain career choices. Sajida Master addressed these concerns by emphasizing the importance of allowing students to choose their careers and providing clarity on the realities of various professions.

In addition to the counseling sessions, Shama bai Dewji, an experienced facilitator from CBG, led a workshop for teachers and a youth development program. Sajida Master, who is also a CBG facilitator, co-facilitated these workshops, enhancing their effectiveness. The teacher’s workshop covered essential topics such as self-awareness, the Teach Model, and the importance of inclusion in teaching practices. Meanwhile, the youth program focused on the Iceberg Theory, stepping out of comfort zones, and public speaking skills.

This comprehensive initiative aimed not only to equip students with knowledge and tools for their educational journeys but also to strengthen the skills of teachers and engage youth one on one in personal growth activities.

We thank the Kigali Jamaat for their warm hospitality, likewise for the opportunity to conduct these worktop sessions, and the support throughout the event. We also express our gratitude to CBG for their collaborative efforts in making these initiatives a success.

Education Board remains committed to promoting career awareness and offering guidance to empower students to make informed and confident decisions about their futures.
