The AFED Housing Development Board (HBD) Chairman Alhaj Akil Hirji, AFED Trustee from Uganda and HDB Advisor Alhaj Shabir Najafi and HBD Project Coordinator Mohamed bhai Moledina visited Kampala Jamaat from 2nd to 5th July 2024 for discussion on various projects and plan a way forward.On 3rd July 2024, a visit to the site was arranged on the potential commercial project on Plot 84/90 Nakivubo Road in Kampala. The current status of the apartment buildings has deteriorated and new development is needed, the Jamaat in partnership with AFED is planning for an investment commercial project to generate income for both parties to cater for the needs.
A visit was also arranged to Plot 96/98 on William Street - ideal plot for a housing project. The plot has good potential for new project that will be beneficial for the community in future.
At the request from Alhaj Mustafa bhai Kanji Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Kampala Jamaat, the Housing Board Chairman Akil bhai visited the Bilal Nursery and Primary school. The plan is to undertake construction of secondary school classes and facilities. Details of the plan was also discussed at the site for the development.
On 3rd July, a visit was arranged to the recently completed commercial project - “The Mall”. It is encouraging to note the hard work by the Kampala Jamaat who have worked tirelessly to promote the property, a good portion has been rented out and the Jamaat strives to get 100% occupancy for the Mall. The building is well maintained and the tenants satisfied with the services.
A Joint meeting was also held on 3rd July between the AFED Housing Board Chairman, AFED Trustee with the Kampala Jamaat Building Committee to discuss on the projects. It was agreed to go ahead with both the projects.
The plot 84/90 – for the investment commercial project consisting of a basement for parking, Ground plus 2 floors of shops and Plot 96/98 for the Housing project.
On 4th July 2024, Akil bhai held a meeting with two contractors to discuss on the construction project and further understand how they work in Uganda and the options available. A Meeting was also held with the Architect to discuss both the Projects wherein the Architect has been assigned to come up with sketch drawings for the project.
A meeting with the Kampala Jamaat Managing Committee on 4th July 2024, where in addition to discussion on the commercial and residential project and brief was also given on the construction of the Bilal secondary school.
After the Meeting Akil bhai Hirji, Shabbar bhai Virani, Sibtain bhai Merchant, Riyaz bhai Mithani and Sohail bhai Manji visited the secondary school extension plot and discussed on the set up of the building.
On 5th July 2024, a meeting was arranged with the Bilal School contractor and consultants to discuss on the proposed changes after fruitful discussion with the Managing Committee and way forward. It was agreed the revised drawings to be prepared for ground plus 2 floors and soil test to be carried out and accordingly design the structure.
On Saturday 13th July 2024, Alhaj Gulam bhai Punjani representing the Punjani Charitable Trust paid a visit to Kampala to finalize on the Bilal Secondary School for which the Trust pledged a donation to build the Secondary block in an expansion project of the school. Alhaj Gulam bhai Punjani was received and met the officials Murabbi Shabir bhai Najafi (AFED Trustee), Murabbi Mustafa bhai Kanji (KSIJ Trustee & Bilal School Director), Br. Riyaz Mithani (Hon. Secretary & Bilal School Director), Alhaj Shabbar bhai Virani (KSIJ Chairman & Bilal School Director) and Alhaj Sibtain bhai Merchant (KSIJ Vice Chairman and Bilal School Director), various discussions took place and ideas were floated on the vision of the school.
The Punjani Trust Foundation Trustee Murabbi Mohamedhussein Punjani and family have been long serving members of Kampala Jamaat and hold the Jamaat dear to them whenever the need arises.
The Bilal School Directors appreciated the Trust member of the Punjani Foundation Alhaj Gulam bhai Punjani for his special trip to Kampala and giving high & special importance to the education sector of the community.
The official Ground Breaking ceremony has been announced to be on Saturday 14th September 2024 InshaAllah.
