TERMS AND CONDITIONS THAT APPLY TO THE EDUCATIONAL LOAN

The Federation of Khoja Shia Ithna-Asheri Jamaats of Africa Supreme Council (KSISC) through the Education Board (EB) provides a limited number of educational loans each year, for undergraduate studies to outstanding students (male and female) from constituent Jamaats, who have limited means to finance their studies.
Selection Criteria
The main criteria for approving the loans are:
- good academic and religious records;
- genuine financial need;
- admission to a reputable quality institution of higher learning and
- thoughtful and coherent educational and career plans.
Candidates are also evaluated on their extra curricular interests and achievements, potential to achieve their goals and likelihood to succeed in an academic environment.
Award of loans will be subject to the condition that the course applied for is not available locally and/or the selected institute is of acceptable standard and that the course cannot be done anywhere else at any lesser cost. Educational loan is provided only for the first under-graduate studies and limited post graduate studies.
Financial Assistance
EB will approve loans to cover the partial/full cost of tuition fees and course materials such as textbooks. Additional amount may be approved in exceptional cases to cover part of the living expenses. The cost of travel is not included in loan amount. Applicants are requested to make every effort to obtain funding from other sources, so that the amount requested from KSISC can be reduced to a minimum. Preference will be given to those who have been able to secure the remaining funding from alternative sources which should be supported by a letter from the co-sponsors. Additional loans/funding must NOT be sought from any of the sister organizations of KSISC e.g. World Federation, Nasimco etc.
Application Procedures
Loan application forms can be obtained from the local Jamaat or download from the Africa Federation website (www.africafederation.org). All applications must be submitted in complete duplicate originals (not photocopied) forms.
Applicants should be prepared to be interviewed by the EB Secretariat (EBS) and/or the Local Education Board Committee about their financial situation, the academic performance, extra-curricular achievements and career plans. Application will NOT be considered without an interview report from the local Jamat).
All Queries for further information should be directed to the Local Education Board Committee/ Jamaats. Any lobbying by or on behalf of the applicants may disqualify the applicant.
Terms and Conditions:
- The Student is required to send to EBS and their Jamats an account of their scholastic results at the end of each term. Students attending universities that do not publish official transcripts are requested to obtain a written appreciation of their academic progress from a Dean, Tutor, Faculty Advisor or the Head of the Department. KSISC reserves the right to withhold or withdraw the loan amount approved, if the EBS considers the academic results of a recipient to be unsatisfactory. Students are advised to communicate to the EBS any additional concerns at the time of submitting the academic results.
- KSISC requires the recipient of its loans to communicate to EBS an account of all other grants, stipends or other income not declared on their original application form, which they may receive before or during the period in which they are advanced the loan. KSISC reserves the right to withhold or withdraw any loan approved in view of the cumulative total received from other sources.
- In the event that a loan recipient fails to report as required under (a) and (b), EBS reserves the right to request the required information directly from University authorities and any other stakeholders.
- ?????KSISC reserves the right to withhold or withdraw any amount loaned if the EBS receives formal notification from the institution involved that the conduct of the recipient of the loan does not confirm to acceptable norms. Further KSISC/Jamaats reserves the right to review the loan annually, if there are changes in circumstances.
- KSISC directly or via the EBS may request a confidential report from the guardian attached to the student, and the student may be required to keep touch with the Local Jamaats in the town/city he/she is studying.
- Students may not transfer to any other educational institute, change the course of study or degree programme for which they are given the loan, without prior written approval from the EBS.
- Loan recipients are requested to submit to EBS copies of their published theses/achievements
- Upon completion of their courses, loan recipients are required to write to EBS about their immediate career plans and thereafter to keep the EBS informed of any changes in their address of employer.
- The guarantors are advised to read these conditions before signing the guarantee form. An agreement Form will have to be signed by the applicant and the two guarantors when the application has been approved. Parents are not allowed to sign as guarantors.
- These terms and conditions will form part of the loan agreement between the KSISC, the student and the Guarantors.
- The submission of the loan form does not in itself guarantee that the loan will be approved.
- On approval of the loan, the loan amount will be remitted by AFED/EBS through the local jamat.
- Students are not eligible to apply for a second loan whilst the previous loan awarded is still outstanding. A second loan if required can only be applied for once the applicant has cleared all his dues for the previous loan awarded
- On approval of the loan, if the applicant migrates during the duration of the course, then the individual Jamat/KSISC have an option to withdraw from the loan.
- The trustees of KSISC, nominate the jamats as their agents, and authorize them to collect the loan ?????????repayments from the students.
