The Chairman, Alhaj Anwarali Dharamsi accompanied by the Office Bearers and Trustees of Africa Federation met with the Office Bearers, Managing Committee Members and Trustees of KSI Jamaat of Dar es Salaam on 2nd August 2012 (13th Ramadhan 1433 A.H.). The meeting took place at the terrace of Zahra Tower, and followed by Sehri.
The President of KSI Jamaat of Dar es Salaam, Alhaj Shiraz P. Walji, with the Office Bearers, Managing Committee Members and Trustees of the Dar es Salaam Jamaat attended the joint meeting organized by Africa Federation.
The meeting covered a wide spectrum of topics, including the community affairs, the current political crisis in the Muslim World and the hardships of thousands of Muslims throughout the world, the adverse economic situation and the need for strategic planning, setting priorities with a long term vision for the future development & benefit to our community.
The AFED Chairman, Alhaj Anwarali Dharamsi in his opening note congratulated Alhaj Shiraz P. Walji on being re-elected for the 2nd two-year term (2012-2014) at the Biennial General Meeting of Dar-es-Salaam Jamaat held in July 2012; he also congratulated the Vice President, Alhaj Azim Dewji, the Office Bearers, the Managing Committee Members and the Trustees and commended them for their commitment and passion to serve the community.
Alhaj Anwarali Dharamsi expressed his pleasure to see the KSI Jamaat undertaking several projects for the benefit of youth and children of our community, including the recently introduced – Hayat Fitness Centre in the Imambargha complex is a remarkable achievement.
Alhaj Anwarali emphasized the importance of improving further the standard of education in our community and stressed the need to raise the current levels of academic excellence so that our youth and children are well equipped to face the competitive and challenging environment we are witnessing in many parts of the world, clearly Africa is not immune from similar situation. He also underscored the crucial role of the Madressah in the upbringing of our children in understanding better the religion of Islam, Islamic History, the Madha’b of Ahlul Baiyt (a.s.) and in inculcating Islamic values.
Alhaj Shiraz Walji gave a brief account of the activities and projects of the Jamaat, he pointed out that the priority for his 2nd term is to focus more towards the housing and health needs of our community in Dar es Salaam. Shiraz bhai explained on the capital projects being undertaken currently by the Jamaat, these are; the KSIJ/Sabodo Car Park Block consisting of ground plus 10 storey building along India Street, the Multipurpose Hall and the Swimming Pool at the Boarding House, United Nations Road.
The main subjects discussed at the meeting were:-
- Higher Education Loans and Repayments.
- Tableegh and Madressah.
- Housing Schemes.
- Hospital Project, viz a viz the Capital Project Paper requirement by the World Federation.
- The Tripartite Economic Empowerment Scheme.
- Stagnation of inflow of funds becomes a challenge for all (To strive in the collection of hukook funds).
- Sharing of news, events and success stories through the media – The Africa Federation Samachar.
- Continue with the Training and Capacity Building Programs (LDP) in developing organizational and human resources capabilities within the community.
- Continue with regular meetings, collaboration and sharing of experiences between the Boards of the Jamaat and AFED.
The Tripartite Economic Empowerment Scheme involves the World Federation, Africa Federation and Dar es Salaam Jamaat by injecting proportionately the capital sum as a loan has taken off successfully. The Economic Empowerment Committee (EEC) of Dar es Salaam Jamaat has a clear goal to achieve in lessening poverty through empowering members with education, business capital, management training and inculcating confidence. A complete road map being developed to remove families from monthly subsidy dependency on the Jamaat. Detailed report will be issued in due course.

The meeting was enlightening with both Institutions gaining in sharing experiences and in understanding the current challenges we all face.
