BILAL IKWIRIRI BRANCH RENOVATES
“MASJID AHLUL BAIT”
Bilal Muslim Mission of Tanzania established a centre at Ikwiriri village 160 kms south of the capital city Dar es Salaam in the year 1999. Maintenance costs were met through generous donations from well wishers over the years. In the year 2011 Beta Charitable sponsored the Ikwiriri development program, which envisioned in making the mosque maintenance a self financing project. Alhaj Ahmed Morrawej then the Economic Empowerment Officer at Bilal Tanzania with the Bilal community members came up with a project of “Self Reliance” to generate income through the sale of fresh water from the well that was dug earlier near the mosque as a first step. Tanks, pump and plumbing material were installed through the funds.
Community members realizing their potential of working as a community embarked on renovating the mosque with funds through this project and also agreed to raise the balance from their sales of agricultural produce to expedite the process. The mosque needed approximately Tshs 4 million (US$2,520) to change the trusses and the roofing sheets that had given way considerably. Soon after the harvest season the amounts were collected and renovation of the Mosque got under way, inculcating sense of belonging as well as confidence in working as a community.
Bilal Muslim Mission of Tanzania applauds the Managing Committee and the Members of Ikwiriri branch for the strides towards self sufficiency, this is a good example and others can emulate to work towards becoming self-sufficient, obviously our assistance and guidance will always be with the community who are keen to develop themselves into a viable, progressive and sustainable society which will benefit not only themselves but generations to come. Below photographs shows the community celebrating the achievements. We thank Beta Charitable Organization of the UK for their support.
