The Free Eye Camp was conducted in Tanga regions, fully sponsored by NAHACO/TPPL of Tanga. The organizers took advantage of the long Maulid weekend to carry out the Eye Camp from 25th to 27th January 2013.
Initial screening were carried out at Zingibari Secondary School in Duga, those identified for cataract surgery were referred to Bombo Hospital in Tanga. The next day the camp moved to Manza Primary School in Mkinga and on the last day at our KSI Jamaat Imambargha in Tanga.
Registration of Patients VA Section
People from various and far places registered early for the eye camp avoiding the rush. Patiently, they registered their names and waited for the other processes to be carried out by the volunteers. Around 1,267 people were screened. 974 glasses and 92 sunglasses distributed and 391 units of medicine were prescribed and handed over to patients.

Sixty cataract surgeries sponsored by Beta Charitable Trust of Essex, UK and Alhaj Akil Lalji of Arusha were carried out by Bombo Regional Hospital surgeons and Dr. Dilawar of D’Salaam who was present throughout the camp. We thank Dr. Dilawar for his continuous support in our Eye Camp programs, and for devoting his valuable time in this noble cause.
We wish to record our appreciation to Gulambhai Bhimani, Anverbhai Merali, Sadikbhai Merali, Mushtaqbhai Fazal and Fatimbai Dewji for donating various items to the patients and also for providing stationery to the students at the two schools where the camps were held.
We are grateful to the Optometrists; Ruwaida, Erick and Juma who were assisted by Br. Rizwan Peera and Br. Akil Lalji from Arusha and the staff of Bombo Hospital, Tanga.
A big “Thank You” to volunteers; Sadik, Asger, Mushtaq, Muntazir, Miqdad, Hussein, Nurdin, Ayn, Chiragbhai, Mustafa, Hasnain, Ally, Zakiabai, Mama Keki, Leilabai, Sophia, Siddika, Alina and Salima. Same go to the helpers Sameera, Edwin and Mussa and the drivers Ali, Saleh and Mbelwa for their participation and cooperation.
We wish to record our appreciation and thanks to the President of the Tanga KSI Jamaat, Alhaj Mehdi Bandali with his team of volunteers for facilitating lunch and dinner in the Imambargha, and to the family of Mohamedbhai Manji Walli for providing accommodation.
