The Chairman of the Africa Federation, Alhaj Anwarali Dharamsi is pleased to re-appoint Br. Mahmood Amir Somji as the Chairman of the Sports Council for the term 2013 – 2016.
A Brief Profile
Mahmood attended his primary school in Arusha and completed his Secondary School Education and IB in Moshi at the International School Moshi; thereafter he joined Arusha Technical College in Arusha where he obtained his diploma in Electrical Engineering in 1987.
Mahmood is the Managing Director of MMT Pharmaceuticals Ltd., and the Director of Themi Suites in Arusha, Tanzania.
Mahmood bhai has served in different capacities in various Sports Organizations, these are:
- Chairman of Kilimeru Sports of Arusha for Eight Years.
- Captain of Kilimeru Cricket Team for Eight Years.
- Vice Captain of Arusha Gymkhana Golf Club in the year 2001.
- Captain – Tanzania Golf Team – East and Central African competition played between Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda and Burundi in the year 2006.
- Chairman – Sports Council of AFED: 2009 – 2010 and 2010 – 2013.
Mahmood is passionate and an ardent sportsman with fine sporting career. Plays mostly Golf with a single figure handicap. He also plays Tennis, Cricket, Soccer and Volleyball. He has participated in all the AFED Sports Festivals since inception and is a recipient of the Africa Federation Sportsman of the Year Abul Fazal Trophy in 1986
