Bilal Muslim Mission of Kenya in June 2013 conducted the second Module 1 Training in Lamkani for the women group in Mackinon Road, Jipe Moyo Women Group in Dembwa and Khadijatul Qubra Women Group in Shimoni for all new members that joined the groups. These trainings play an important role in empowering the women in the local community.
The module was held for 5 days in each centre. Sessions on group mobilization, leadership and savings training were held and it was facilitated by Sister Sidi Nyota.
A session on Islamic Religious Education was also held during the training and it was facilitated by Sister Aisha.
The Average daily attendance of the participants was 40. The enthusiasm and keenness shown by the women were remarkable.
The main objective of this module was:
- Building-up of qualities and skills to be a good leader, how to select a group leader and the roles of office bearers
- How to solve problems in groups
- Good communication skills
- Maintaining of records in passbooks, register and monitoring forms.
- Basic Savings Techniques and Methodologies
- Guideline set for the future plans
Activities undertaken during the training:
- Islamic Religious Education was conducted on topics like ‘The role of women in Islam’ , ‘Wudhu’ and ‘Hijab’
- Issues pertaining to group formation, leadership and savings were taught through interactive discussions, role plays, case studies and storytelling.
- A discussion on live stock rearing was also conducted where issues like sicknesses, medicines etc was discussed
- Work Plan was set up
Achievements:
- The rules were laid down for the new group members.
- Two groups have been formed under the same group name where each group will have their own sub-committee.
