BILAL MUSLIM MISSION OF TANZANIA HOLDS
FREE EYE CAMP AT KIMAMABA-KILOSA
(27-29 SEPTEMBER 2013)
The Bilal Muslim Mission of Tanzania (BMMT) organized a 3-Days Eye Camp, sponsored by M/s. Jamana Printers Limited of Dar es Salaam at Kimamba, Kilosa District, 260 kms from Dar es Salaam from 27th to 29th September 2013.
Camp was set at Mwenge Primary School and the surgeries performed at Kimamba Hospital.
People from various villages in the Kilosa District registered for the Free Eye treatment, and 1981 patients of various ages were screened, details are given below:
The screening also revealed that one in ten patients had matured cataract- there is a need for another camp so as to cater for those who were not able to attend the Camp, and those who did not receive the information in time.

OUTCOME OF THE CAMP
114 cataract surgeries were successfully performed and the patients regained their sight. Among these, they were those who had lost hope, and narrate their ordeals:-
A lady who had to leave her job eight years ago because of losing her eyesight was so happy for being able to see after the surgery and she plans to resume her work.
A man who had been blind for ten (10) years and was operated on one eye was so ecstatic for regaining sight; he refused to leave the hospital until he was operated on the second eye also. He left a happy and able to see again.
1,416 patients were prescribed with glasses and 277 received sunglasses, including the patients who underwent cataract surgery. 1059 units of eye drops/ointments were also provided to the patients and each surgery patients received 3 units of eye drops. Vitamins were also distributed to 202 eye patients.

The Central Bilal Board and the Bilal Muslim Mission of Tanzania are thankful to the Ministry of Health for their cooperation, M/s. Jamana Printers Limited of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania for sponsoring the Camp and Beta Charitable Trust of U.K. for sponsoring the surgeries.
We are thankful to entire team of doctors, nurses, volunteers, regional and District Government Authorities, local Councillors, the School administration and teachers, the Tanzania Police Force and all those who in one way or the other supported and facilitated the successful conduct of the Camp.
