BILAL MUSLIM MISSION OF TANZANIA
FREE EYE CAMP REPORT
CAMP STATION – MTIBWA, MOROGORO, TANZANIA
Bilal Muslim Mission of Tanzania organized a three days eye camp at Mtibwa in Morogoro District which is 90 Kms from Morogoro town. The Free Eye Camp was sponsored by Beta Charitable Trust of U.K. and carried out from 29th November to 1st December, 2013.
In our 26 years of experience of the organization of Eye Camps, we observed that many patients do not believe that they get checked, given medicine or spectacles or operated free of charge. But, once words spread around, patients flock in large numbers.
People from different parts of the nearby villages gathered for registration as can be seen in the photographs below
REGISTRATION V/A SECTION
2,132 patients of various age-groups and genders were screened, 929 units of medicine were prescribed, also 1,801 spectacles and 121 sunglasses were issued, and different eye diseases were observed. 102 patients had cataract surgery and 1 patient had an eye-removal surgery.
The Eye Camp teams were very well received by the officials of Mtibwa Sugar Estates Ltd. who worked hand in hand with the team till late evenings and extended full support to facilitate our work and even donated foodstuff for the Camp and patients.
The joys on the face of the patients were awesome as they had lost hope of regaining eyesight
A 50 years old lady regained sight after five years’ of blindness, could see well and came all the way to the school to thank the organizers, Bilal Muslim Mission of Tanzania.
Another old lady had a bad infection and the whole eye had to be removed in order to save her other eye. Once it heals she will travel to Morogoro for an artificial eye. A young mother lost her vision as she was too poor to travel to Morogoro for treatment and her baby girl of one year two months had cataract. Arrangements have been made to save the baby’s eyes.
We wish to thank Beta Charitable Trust of U.K. for fully sponsoring the eye camp and cataract surgeries.
Our special thanks go to the entire team of doctors, nurses, volunteers of the Bilal Muslim Mission of Tanzania Eye Camp for their tireless work and for their commitment towards these camps.
Our appreciation also goes to the management of Mtibwa Sugar Estate Ltd, Regional and District officials, officials of the Seif Nassor Secondary School, we are very grateful for their overwhelming support. We also thank Tanzania Road Haulage Ltd. (TRH), AOTCO, and Mr. Mushtaq Fazal for providing transport to travel from Dar es Salaam to Mtibwa, Morogoro District, for the three days camp and return to Dar es Salaam.
We pray to Allah (swt) to shower His choicest blessings and grace to all those who supported in one way or the other to make the Eye Camp a success
