ECOMONIC UPLIFTMENT PROJECT
On Sunday, 3rd August 2013, members from Rahma Women Group-Kilungu, Masumin Women Group – Nzavoni and Zainabiyya Women Group – Masongaleni combined together to host an Eid Trade Fare cum market day in in Masongaleni from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Economic Upliftment Groups from all 15 BMMK Centres were invited to participate in this event.
Local people from the area were very happy to see the women from different areas bringing different items for display and sale.
Ukambani area without rainfall makes it a very dry land hence has higher level of poverty. However the group yet proposed to host the trade Fare to uplift their living standards.
The event was graced by Ms. Catherine Kakui – official from Community Development Funds (CDF), Kibwezi, Ms. Rose Kaleli – Chairlady of Maendeleo ya Wanawake, Thange Ward, Kibwezi and Ms. Agnes Muya – Treasurer of Maendeleo ya wanawake, Thange Ward, Kibwezi. Also present were the village elders, the chairman of the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) and Young Women Group.
All the visitors were shown the products on display by the groups in each stall by the EUP trainers Sis Sidi Nyota and Sis Kauchi Chifui. They were happy to see women doing businesses and commended BMMK for supporting and empowering these groups. He was also interested in knowing about the EUP project at large. Lunch was served to all the visitors who attended the event.
The women were very happy after calculating their profits by the end of the day. Most of them went back to their centers with little or no products that they had brought for sale early that morning.
Bilal Muslim Mission of Kenya extends its appreciation to the Zainabiyya Women Group – Masongaleni for their tireless efforts throughout this event. It also appreciates the support given to the group by its nearby centre, Rahma Women Group-Kilungu and Masumin Women Group – Nzavoni.
It is through these kinds of events that empowers the women and motivates them to be self-reliant and independent in their lives.
