YOUTH LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME
PREPARING FOR THE AFED YOUTH CAMP – MOSHI 2015
The Africa Youth Network (AYN) in collaboration with the Africa Federation Capacity Building Group (CBG) organized the first Youth Leadership Development Programme (YLDP) held in Africa under AFED on the 21st and 22nd February 2015, in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
A total of 20 youth from Arusha, Dar es Salaam, Mombasa and Nairobi attended the session.
The aim of the development workshop was to allow participants to understand themselves better, unlock their potentials to serve the community, to realize their own leadership styles and enhance and evolve their skills. The graduates of the program will be participating in the AFED Youth Camp: Moshi 2015 as mentors and their learnings from the YLDP will play a pivotal role in preparing and developing them for the camp experience.
A trusting, supportive and confidential environment was created within the program to ensure full exploration and awareness of self and the current state of each individual participant in their leadership journey.
The program was facilitated by the AFED CBG team, Sis Mumtaz Ladak, Sis Shama Dewji and Br Shabbirhussein Khalfan.
Each day the program would begin at 8.30 am and end at 6 pm.
Some of the various concepts that were covered over the two days using processes to enhance the learning included:
- Capacity vs Capability
- Authenticity, Respect vs Tolerance
- Understanding Self by applying the Iceberg Theory
- Emotional Intelligence
- Understanding and respecting the differences in others.
- Leadership Skills
- Communication Skills and Active Listening
- Empathy Skills
- Introduction to Learning – Andragogy and Pedagogy

Appreciation
In his brief address to the participants (Mentors, Facilitators & Volunteers) the AFED Hon. Secretary; Alhaj Aunali Khalfan thanked the constituent Jamaats and their AYN Representatives for their support and cooperation, especially in motivating and facilitating for the youth from their respective Jamaats to participate in the YLDP.
He said this program was very important in that it is preparing them for the AFED Youth Camp taking place in Moshi from 1st to 10th April. He said this kind of training is also beneficial for self-developing for individuals in building their confidence and skills which will help them in their own careers and development.
On behalf of AFED, he thanked the AFED CBG Facilitators, Participants and the Volunteers for their commitment and services in this developmental program.
Closing Ceremony
The closing ceremony was attended by the Chairman of Africa Federation – Alhaj Anwarali Dharamsi, the Hon. Gen. Secretary of Africa Federation – Alhaj Aunali Khalfan, Chairman of Arusha Jamaat – Alhaj Gulamhussein Mukhtar, Chairman of AFTab – Seyed Hassan Naqvi, Chairman of CHB – Br Farhan Yusuf and Chairman of AYN – Br. Muntazir Meghjee.
The ceremony was held on Sunday the 22nd of February from 5 pm to 6 pm. at Urban Rose Conference Room, it was facilitated by the AFED CBG team, and it was coordinated and conducted by the YLDP participants themselves, the presentation ceremony included testimonials, which manifested the breakthrough and enlightenment the participants experienced.
The AFED Chairman, Alhaj Anwarali Dharamsi congratulated each and every participant during the presentation of the “Participation Certificate”.
We wish to thank Dar es Salaam Jamaat for their support, Br Alihassan Kassam for taking care of the logistics in Dar es Salaam – as well as his team of volunteers. We extend our appreciation to all the participants for attending and contributing positively during the session.
