Bilal Muslim Mission of Tanzania – Free Eye Camp at Kigoma
The Bilal Muslim Mission of Tanzania in collaboration with BETA Charitable Trust of Essex, U.K, Zantas Air and Kigoma Hill Top Hotel held a free eye and healthcare camp at Kigoma, from 3rd to 7th April 2015.
The camp was held at Ahlul Bayt Islamic Center and the surgeries were carried out at Maweni Regional Hospital, Kigoma.
The teams of surgeons, ophthalmologists, optometrists, volunteers from Morogoro Regional Hospital consisted of Dr. Njau, Dr. Mashaka, Dr. Florence, Dr. Chomba, Jonathan, Zubeda, Nyambona Ernold, Jumanne, Jaffer, Goodluck Eric, Emmanuel, Ruwaida, Rukaiya and Aisha.
Patients who had undergone Surgery received:
- Sunglasses
- 3 Bottles of Dexamethane / Chroloramphenical Eye Drops
- Required doses of Paracetemol and Acetazolamide tablets
- Breakfast, lunch & Dinner provided by BMMT in hospital
- Transportation to & from their home / village
The Volunteers were: Anver Merali, Chirag Walji, Nooral Ain Shariff, Sadik Merali, Mushtaq Fazal, Hussein Shariff, Ali Kifuka, Musa, Edwin, Miqdad Rehmtulla, Mohamedreza Janmohamed, Anar Janmohamed, Salma Merali, Mamakeki, and Siddika Rehmtulla.
The pharmacist was Imtiaz Daud.
Alhaj Mohsin Lalji (Sheni) provided enormous support in the whole exercise with his usual generous hospitality in ensuring the success of the camp.
BMMT group was also supported by the teachers and students of Ahlul Bayt Islamic Center. Their extraordinary co-operation and enthusiasm made the task easy to overcome and to ease the logistics challenges we faced.
APPRECIATION
Our special thanks goes to the District Commissioner and the Government officials who were very helpful in all fields. We also thank the police for providing the support ensuring peaceful activities at the Camp.
We extend our thanks to the Kigoma DMO, Doctor in Charge, Theatre Nurses and Technicians, and other Nurses who were available all the time to serve the patients.
