The Chairman of Africa Federation Alhaj Shabir Najafi on a visit to Dar-es-Salaam from Tuesday 20th November to Friday 23rd November 2016 took the opportunity to meet with the Dar-es-Salaam based Nominated and Elected Councillors and the Africa Federation Boards Chairmen.
The Councillors meeting was held on Thursday 24th November 2016 at 9.00 p.m. at the Tabligh Auditorium and was attended by the AFED Office Bearers, Trustees, Dsm Jamaat President Alhaj Azim Dewji, AFED nominated and elected Councillors.
AFED Chairman Shabir Najafi spoke on the roles of the Councilors who are representatives of their respective Jamaats to the Africa Federation, he clarified that though they are elected by their Jamaats they form part of the Africa Federation Supreme Council and have duties to perform as per Clause 22a of the AFED Constitution.
The Chairman briefed the Councillors on the acute need for housing especially in Dar-es-Salaam and Madagascar, he informed that currently Nairobi Jamaat has 48 units under construction, Mombasa 26 units, and 18 Units in Dar es Salaam on Band Street, he added that discussions were ongoing with Dar-es-Salaam Jamaat on the Uhuru Street project based on a specific Scheme basis. He also mentioned that Bukoba are looking into 4 units for construction on the Jamaat’s plot.
Shabir bhai gave details on the increase of the Education budget due to the large number of applications being received and cited that the number vis a vis the loan for students from Dar-es-Salaam has increased by almost 100% of the past year.
The Chairman was concerned on the non-payment of Higher Education Loan by students; he requested the Jamaats and their Education Boards to make a vigorous follow-up on the students defaulting on the loan repayments.
He pointed out on the dire need for funds and hukuk from members, on this subject he stressed and requested the Councilors to become the Ambassadors of AFED and help promote the activities assist in the fund raising for Africa Federation.
