The Africa Federation (AFED) Chairman, Alhaj Shabir Najafi accompanied by the Vice Chairman, Alhaj Aunali Khalfan, the Hon. Secretary Alhaj Hussein Karim and the Chairman of the Economic and Housing Development Board of AFED, Alhaj Akil Hirji paid a visit to Mwanza Jamaat from Friday, 7th to Saturday, 8th October, 2016 (5th to 6th Muharram 1438).
Visiting Member Jamaats by the AFED Office Bearers during the Ashra-e-Muharram has been a tradition for the past several years; these visits provide a good opportunity to AFED Office Bearers to join in with the Community members in commemoration of the martyrs of Karbala whose sacrifices have left an indelible mark in the history of Islam. They sacrificed their lives for the restoration of justice, human dignity, human values and the salvation of the religion of Islam.
The trip to our Jamaats provide useful opportunity to meet and exchange ideas with the Jamaat leaders, elders of the community and also provides the opportunity to make site visits to see the developments of our institutions.
On Friday, 5th Muharram the AFED delegation had an opportunity to meet up with the Hon. Secretary of Mwanza Jamaat and discussed some pertinent issues of the Jamaat viz a viz AFED. The discussions centered on Tabligh and Madressah activities, Education, Business Development, Housing and the general economic situation of our brothers in Mwanza.
The Chairman with his delegation accompanied by Salim bhai Panjwani, the Mwanza Jamaat Hon. Secretary, visited the Jamaat’s buildings and properties which are mostly located in the city centre around our Mosque area; these are all in good locality for further development.
After the majlis at the Imambargha, Salim bhai Panjwani introduced Shabir bhai Najafi who took over the helm of the Africa Federation in April 2016 from Alhaj Anwarali Dharamsi. Shabir bhai addressed the Community members providing brief information on the various activities of the Africa Federation and the plans for this term; Shabir bhai emphasized on the unity and explained on the challenges we face globally. He stressed the importance of building bridges of friendship and cooperation with other Muslim sects and other faiths.
The AFED Chairman requested members of the Community to remit their Hukook through the central system of Africa Federation as this will provide the Institution with funds to support various activities of the Jamaats and AFED which falls within the ambit of the Ijaza.
A visit was also made to Bilal Muslim Mission Mwanza Branch office where the delegation met the Bilal Mwanza Branch Chairman, Alhaj Sibtain Meghjee. He briefed the delegation on the several initiatives being undertaken by Bilal Branch, for example blood donation drive, fresh water wells, boreholes, visits to the Centres and Muharram programs etc.
The Chairman of Economic and Housing Development Board, Alhaj Akil Hirji visited the modern farm of vegetables which includes, storage, irrigation and packaging etc. this is a new development by a young member of our community in Mwanza, Br. Hussein Murtaza Alloo, seen below with Br. Hussain Karim and Br. Akil Hirji who were accompanied by Salim bhai Panjwani. Those interested can contact Br. Hussein Alloo in Mwanza.

We are thankful to Mwanza Jamaat for the warm welcome and for organizing the logistics and the visit to the sites. We are also thankful to the Jamaat for providing a slot to the AFED Chairman to address the Community members. We are grateful to Br. Salim Panjwani for accompanying the AFED delegation throughout the two days they were in Mwanza.
We are grateful to Alhaj Murtaza Alloo and his son Br. Hussein Alloo for facilitating a visit to their farm and witnessing the modern methods and technology of farming vegetables and packaging etc.
