The Federation of Khoja Shia Ithna Asheri Jamaats of Africa (Afed) handed over 100 Desks and Chairs to Kwani Primary School at Mwera in Zanzibar on Monday, 10th October 2016, the handover took place during a brief function organized on behalf of Afed by Alhaj Mohamedraza Dharamsee (popularly known by the name of Mohamedraza Pope).
The Chairman of Afed, Alhaj Shabir Najafi, accompanied by the immediate past Chairman and Trustee of Afed, Alhaj Anwarali Dharamsi, the Vice Chairman, Alhaj Aunali Khalfan and the Hon. Treasurer, Alhaj Mohamed Hemani travelled to Zanzibar for the function.
The Minister for Education of Zanzibar Government, Hon. Madam Riziki Pemba Juma, the Chief Guest at the function, Deputy Minister of Education, Mr. Manga Mjengo Mjawiri, the Regional Commissioner of the South Region of Zanzibar, Dr. Idrisa Muslim Hijah and several other dignitaries from various departments of Zanzibar Government, Principal of the School, Teachers, Students, Guests and Zanzibar Jamaat officials were present during the two hours function.
The program commenced with recitation of verses from the Holy Qur’an followed by a welcome address from the Principal of Kwani Primary School. Thereafter, Alhaj Mohamedraza Dharamsee introduced the Afed delegation and spoke eloquently as always in Kiswahili giving the brief history of the tragic event of Kerbala underpinning the importance of remembering Ashura and the martyrdom of the grandson of the Holy Prophet of Islam (SAWW), Imam Hussain (AS) who stood firm till his last breath to defend Islam, its Values and the Human Dignity.
Mohamedraza also spoke on the importance of having good facilities at the schools, for example; desks, teaching equipment and other amenities like lighting system, clean water and clean washrooms in keeping the environment conducive and with good hygiene.
In his address, the Vice Chairman of Africa Federation, Alhaj Aunali Khalfan provided a brief history of the Khoja Shia Ithna Asheri in Zanzibar; he said the history is well covered in the book, “The Endangered Species” authored by Alhaj Hassan Ali M M Jaffer, presently residing in Mombasa, Kenya who is originally from Zanzibar. The book with a small gift was presented to the Hon. Minister by the immediate past Chairman and the Trustee of Africa Federation, Alhaj Anwarali Dharamsi.
Aunali Khalfan on behalf of the Chairman, Alhaj Shabir Najafi thanked the Chief Guest, Honorable Minister, the Government officials other dignitaries for their presence at the function, he assured the Honorable Minister of the Africa Federation’s support for the education sectors especially in the villages schools in Zanzibar where good facilities are lacking. He also thanked Alhaj Mohamedraza Dharamsee for organizing the program in Zanzibar at a short notice, and for his warm hospitality to the Afed delegation.
