Africa Federation Economic and Housing Development Board achieved another milestone on September 30, 2016, with the signing of a contract for the construction of 18 apartments and 2 shops project on Band Street on the Plot donated by Alhaj Gulam bhai Fazal Dewji and his family. The tender was won and awarded to M/S Mohammedi Builders Limited.
The project completion is in 18 months’ time from October 15, 2016. This housing project named Asghari Residency is aimed at mid-income earners and a special scheme will be drawn shortly. More information about the project will be given at a later stage.
During the contract signing ceremony, which was witnessed by WF Hon. Secretary Alhaj Kumail Manji, the AFED Hon Secretary, Alhaj Hussein Karim, on behalf of the AFED Chairman, Alhaj Shabir Najafi, thanked the EHBD Chairman Alhaj Akil Hirji and his board members particularly Vice Chair Sister Shakira Dhanani and Alhaj Azim Mawji for their very hard work to enable it to reach this stage in a very short time. Of particular mention was the EHBD member and Legal Advisor Zakiya bai Khamis, who prepared the contract and worked tirelessly around the clock to beat the deadline.



The Chairman equally thanked the AFED Trustees Murabbi Alhaj Anver bhai Dharamsi and Alhaj Mehboob bhai Versi for their support and Managing Trustee and AFED Treasurer Ahaj Mohammed bhai Hemani for handling, advising and overseeing the documentation process, the fellow OBs and support staff at the Secretariat. Last but not least, he thanked WF OB’s and WF Councillor Murabbi Alhaj Ahmed bhai Daya for being instrumental in soliciting the funds from World Federation and for the support rendered to Africa Federation and Housing Board towards this project. He also appreciated the donation and support from Alhaj Murtaza Merali of Sanita Merali Trust UK.
EHDB Chairman Alhaj Akil bhai Hirji took the moment to thank again the plot donor and his family for the generous offer and he expressed his earnest desire for other potential donors in the community to come forward and donate plots for the development of the housing sector in the community.
Since Africa Federation’s vision for 2016-2019 is to facilitate its members with housing in Africa, the Economic and Housing Development Board plans to facilitate 200 Apartments in Africa of which 100 would be in Dar-es-salaam for mid-income earners.
The Board is looking for an outright purchase of a plot in City Centre or in Upanga or on joint venture basis with any of our community member only in Dar es Salaam on the basis of 20:80 ratio.
