ECONOMIC UPLIFTMENT PROJECT

On Saturday, 19th September 2015, members from Zahra Al-Batul Women Group together with Suqaina Women Group hosted a trade fair at Samburu Bilal Centre from 8.00 am to 4.00 pm. Economic Upliftment Groups from all 15 BMMK centres were invited to participate in this event. Two members from each of the 13 centres had come to represent their group for the event.

The event was graced by the local area assistant District Officer, Mr. Hassan Chirunga. He was shown the products displayed by the groups in each stall by the EUP trainer Sis. Sidi Nyota. He was pleased to see women involving themselves in occupation and businesses, he also commended BMMK for supporting and empowering these groups.

Objectives of the trade fair:
- Gather at least 2 ladies from each centre at one place so as to communicate and share ideas and skills.
- Motivate them to market their products / businesses outside their own localities
- The members to note how each person runs their businesses so that they can improve where they notice weaknesses.
COMMENTS:
“We are very happy to have got a chance to host such an event. All the members who had come from various centres benefitted by selling products to each other as well as sharing ideas on how to improve their businesses”. – Chinyavu Ali (Samburu)
“I have come to Samburu to take part in the trade fair where I am displaying clothes stitched by my students. It is my first time to come to Samburu and I am thankful to Allah (SWT) to have benefitted from this event by earning some profits from the sales made and learning various aspects of business from our fellow ladies”. – Mwanaiddy (Bahakanda Tailoring Teacher)
“Being a resident of this place I am happy to see our mothers come together from as far as Ukambani to participate in this event. Having heard these ladies have gone through various trainings such as Making Bar Soaps and Liquid detergents, this way the ladies can conduct businesses and earn an income despite of being at home. The Government is proud of NGO’s such as BMMK who are extending their hand towards improving the lives of our mothers”. – Hassan Chirunga (Asst. County Government Office)
