As a continuation of Teacher’s Development Programme, MCE in collaboration with AFTab held a two days Teacher’s Skills Programme and a one day Micro Teach Session for a second cohort of Madrasah Teachers in November 2015 in Dar es Salaam.
Likewise, a second cohort of Madrasah Teachers from Nairobi was also conducted towards the end of November 2015.
A total of 44 teachers from the Madaris in Dar es Salaam and Nairobi attended the programmes.
The programs were facilitated by Sayyid Aliraza Naqvi from UK, sponsored jointly by the World Federation and Africa Federation.
Modules included:
- Role and Responsibility of a Madrasah Teacher
- Lesson Planning and Planning Skills
- Learning and Reflective Practice
The participants also had the opportunity to practice the skills learnt in the first two days and get feedback from peers as well as facilitators.
A Micro-teach lll session for the Teachers from the previous cohort was held in Dar es Salaam on 17th of November 2015, whereas the Micro Teach ll Session was held for the Teachers from Haydari Madrasah, Nairobi on 29th of November 2015. The Micro Teach Sessions were facilitated in both the cities by Sister Shaida Abdulrasul, who is the current Principal of the Husayni Madrassah Dar es Salaam and has recently joined in the team of MCE Facilitators.
The Micro Teach Session included:
- Debrief session and sharing of experiences after the first Micro-teach. The teachers were allocated into groups of 4-6 and were given the opportunity to teach on any topic they had previously taught to a batch of students (other teachers) and one observer who was also one of the participants.
- A debrief session was conducted to discuss general feedback from observations made and further tips regarding teacher-student relationship.
The objective of this program is to increase the skills of the teachers, and to shift their attitudes and behaviors so that they may be better able to support the learning of the students.
The long-term plan and objective is to provide every teacher who has been trained with the Teaching Skills, five sessions of Micro-teaching experience.
Comments from the Participants about the Teacher Skills Programme:
- This module was very helpful and essential to me, in fact it was an eye opener and led to a massive dawn of realization and I would recommend all teachers in madrasah or not, in fact all parents to do it.
- The module facilitated for my further probing into my duty/ responsibilities as a teacher and has enhanced for my continuous self-reflection and assessment. Definitely an opening for a better me!
- The whole development plan was motivating and learnt AMAZING! Skills both by observing your way of teaching and the content, the best thing I enjoyed you practically taught the content. Thank you!
- Very reflective and thought provoking. I got to reflect on my teaching, build the confident that I can make a change in a child’s life.
- It has given me a step by step approach on how to make a lesson more better and fruitful through good preparation and of course understanding of students
Comments about the Micro-Teaching Session:
- The microteaching was really helpful because it made me realize my weakness and what I need to develop tor become a better teacher/learner
- The observer’s feedback has identified some of the very strengths I never reflected upon as an observer. It made me think critically about myself being in the opposite person’s situation and it played a dual role of bringing awareness of the strengths and weaknesses of myself as well as the person I was observing. The sessions have been very effective in building as the builders of the generation to come.
- It is very helpful as it gives growth to our teaching journey from hard to beautiful. A very encouraging facilitator, a very positive team. Alhamdulillah, looking forward to Micro Teach 4
Comments about Sayyid Aliraza Naqvi:
- You have no idea of the magnitude of the work you do, you’re the catalysts to our Madrassah’s revolution.
- A ROLE MODEL who has really touched my heart and has given me the motivation and enthusiasm to bring a change in myself and Madrasah Inshallah.
- Mashallah! A blessing to have with us in the session, thanking you for opening up my mind and making me believe I can do better for my children.
- He has presented this two-day programme in the most practical, fun and learning way possible. I am thankful that I registered for this and got a chance to be facilitated by him! An inspiration indeed
Comments About MCE:
- This program totally changed my view and I feel all madrasah teachers should be given this training for us to be able to progress and make a difference in the lives of the students.
All the participants were awarded certificates of completion. Every teacher who undergoes the Teacher Skills Program with the first session of Micro Teaching is awarded with a certificate of completion. Thereafter, upon attending and fully participating in 5 sessions of Micro Teaching Practice, another certificate will be presented to the Teachers.
