The Madrassah Centre of Excellence (MCE) of the World Federation in partnership with the Africa Federation Tabligh Board (AFTab) conducted the First Teacher Development Programme – Teaching Skills in Madagascar and Reunion. The two days Training and a one-day Micro Teach Session for the Madrassah Teachers of Constituent Jamaats in Territorial Councils of Madagascar and Reunion was held between 20th February and 3rd March 2016 in Antananarivo Madagascar and Saint Denis, Reunion respectively.
A total of 56 teachers from the Madaris of the Jamaats of Madagascar and Reunion participated, they had the opportunity to practice the skills learnt in the first two days and receive feedback from peers as well as facilitators.
Feedback from Participants:
“This programme has showed and proved that we need to be prepared physically and psychologically before we go and teach.”
“I realized the importance of the lesson plan and how important it is to encourage the student in any situation.”
“Sayyid Aliraza Naqvi was always smiling, he was touching our hearts, he succeeded in keeping our attention for so many hours and we were not bored. This is exceptional and very rare.”
“This seminar was an awakening for me; I did not realize that teaching implied so many responsibilities.”
“There should be such programmes more often; this is a very good programme which should be compulsory for every teacher.”
“A training which will remain in our memory for a long time, we had a lot of emotions during the sessions.”
The Micro Teach Session included:
- A Debrief session and sharing of experiences after the first Micro-teach. The teachers were allocated into groups of 4-6 and were given the opportunity to teach on any topic they had previously taught to a batch of students (other teachers) and one observer who was also one of the participants.
- A debrief session was conducted to discuss general feedback from observations made and further tips regarding teacher-student relationship.
The objective of this program is to increase the skills of the teachers, and to change their attitudes and behavior so that they are better equipped to support the learning of the students.
The long-term plan and objective is to provide every teacher who has been trained with the Teaching Skills, five sessions of Micro-teaching experience.
Every teacher who undergoes the Teacher Skills Program with the first session of Micro Teaching is awarded with a certificate of completion and upon attending and fully participating in all the five sessions of Micro Teaching Practice, another certificate is presented to the teachers to mark completion of their full training.
