PROFILES OF PROMINENT PERSONALITIES
HAJI MOHAMEDALI DHALLA
In 1974 Mombasa Jamaat lost one of its oldest and dedicated leader Haji Mohamedali Dhalla.
Haji Mohamedali Dhalla was born in Machakos in 1906 and joined the family business in Mombasa at a very young age. He efficiently handled the business to place it amongst the leading companies in transport and furniture. The business continued to thrive with his good management.
Marhum Haji Mohamedali served the Khoja Shia Ithna-Asheri Kuwwatul Islam Jamaat of Mombasa for a number of years and also played a leading role in Education Board, Faize-Husseini, Jafferi Club and Murtaza Ali Trust. His services to the community continued for 50 years.
He passed away on 21st April, 1974 leaving a large family behind.
HAJI FAZALHUSEIN MOHAMEDRAZA FAZAL
Haji Fazal died at a young age of 41 in Mombasa on 20th April, 1974 after a short illness. Marhum was very devoted to a number of charitable institutions and had contributed his services to Bilal Muslim Mission of Kenya. He was a fine sportsman and suffered heart attack whilst playing tennis.
Haji Fazal was in family business of exporting produce and dealing in wide variety of commodities.
He leaves behind a widow and four children.
HAJI ABDALLAH WALIMOHAMED
Haji Abdullahbhai Walimohamed of Morondava, Madagascar passed away in Dar es Salaam on 26th February, 1974 whilst returning from a Ziyarat trip.
Marhum was born in Kutch in 1896. He migrated to Reunion Island at a young age of 29 and after a year moved to Madagascar and settled at Morondava.
His services to Morondava Jamaat included number of years as a “Chef de congregation” and as treasurer of school. He was President of the Jamaat for a short period.
A meeting to pay tribute to Haji Abdullahbhai was held at Morondava and a number of speakers spoke of his devoted services to the community. The speakers included Maulana Syed Hassan Haider Zaidi and Haji Abdulrasul Ali Thaver.
Let us remember the personalities mentioned above and all Marhumeen with Sura-e-Fateha for the maghferat of the departed souls.
