Eid ul Adha falls on the 10th day in the 12th month of Dhul Hijjah of the Islamic Calendar. Muslims celebrate this day to commemorate the devotion of prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son for Allah (S.W.T).
This command from Allah SWT was a test of Prophet Ibrahim’s (As) willingness and commitment to obey his Lord’s command, without question. Therefore, Eid-ul-Adha means the festival of sacrifice.
This year activities planned out were limited due to the restrictions imposed by the government to minimize the spread of the Covid-19. Some of the challenges were:
1. Mumineen offered their Eid prayers at home so as to maintain social distance and avoid gathering in large crowds.
2. All the BMMK Centres applied for official approvals from relevant authorities for slaughtering goats and distribution of meat to the community.
3. The Festivities such as preparing Eid Niyaz for the community and visiting the elderly, among others were suspended so as to be in line with the directives imposed by the government.
On 31st July, the day of Eid ul Adha, All BMM Kenya Centre staff came together to observe the Eid prayers in the centres that they are designated at. Social distancing was maintained during the meet up. After conducting the prayers centres staff supervised slaughtering of the goats which was packed and then distributed individually to Mumineen in the centres.
With the generous support and assistance received from various donors and organizations Bilal Muslim Mission of Kenya was able to provide 1065 goats in total to various regions namely; 940 goats in Coast to 38 centres including 15 BMMK centres and 23 Shia Independent centres. 65 goats were also distributed in Lamu.
The Mission appreciates the generous support and assistance it has received from various donors & Well-wishers and looks forward to your continued support in all our activities in the future.
The Mission also thanks all those involved in this program.
