The greatest wealth and strength of any society is its youth. The future of a nation or a community lies in the hands of its posterity. The quality of its youth determines the kind of future, the nation will have. Therefore, if we want to ensure a bright future of the society, we first need to strengthen and empower our youth as they are not only the future of tomorrow, but more-so, are ‘The Present’.
Empowering young people helps transform lives, build stronger communities and a brighter future. With this vision in the horizon, the AFED Capacity Building Board (CBG) has endeavored a specially designed programme for the youth that is invigorating, insightful and challenging; engaging in a range of experiential, reflective and interactive exercises. The sessions are run by a team of experienced facilitators and continually revised and upgraded to meet the evolving challenges posed by the future.
To motivate and inspire these young people, the Capacity Building Group of Africa Federation in collaboration with Jafri Islamic Center of Malawi organized a Youth Development (YDP) Programme in Lilongwe over the weekend of 27th and 28th November 2021. The programme was facilitated by Br. Shabbirhussein Khalfan, Sr. Shama Dewji and Developmental Facilitators, Sr. Soumeya Djaffar and Br. Mohamedabbas Karim. The 2-day workshop was attended by 17 dynamic youth of the community.
The 2 day training course has been a journey of discovery, rediscovery and transformation for participants to explore depths and take a step out of their comfort zone and leave the old ”you” behind the doors. It is also an essential sounding board for our communities where youth are encouraged to voice their thoughts; their opinions are valued and given insight on how this can impact their futures. Adults as well as communities benefit from the fresh perspective, optimism, and enthusiasm youth bring to the table. All in all, it is a rewarding experience for everyone involved.
We are confident that all those who attended the 2-day session have an immense wealth of knowledge to ponder over and will endeavor to share their learning experiences with others and come forth to serve the community with renewed zeal and enthusiasm by keeping this learning journey on-going.
On behalf of the Capacity Building Board of AFED, we extend our appreciation to the Chairman of Jafri Islamic Center of Malawi for facilitating the workshop and reaching out to the youth in the society. We are also grateful to the Jamaat for availing the venue and the amenities for the training session as well as handling the logistics in collaboration with CBG.
We thank all the parents, Managing Committee of the Jamaat and Invitees who honored the youth with their presence at the certification and closing ceremony.
Lastly, a big THANK YOU to all the youth who participated in this 2-day workshop. We salute your time, efforts and vibrant energy brought to this event, making it a success. It is our sincere entreaty to the participants that this is but a stepping stone. We hope that you will keep up this learning journey and enhance your personal effectiveness and of the community and humanity at large.
By The grace and blessings of the Almighty Allah (s.w.t), CBG had a delightfully interactive and productive session with the ladies of the community in Lilongwe, Malawi on Friday 26th November 2021. The workshop which was conducted by Sr. Shama Dewji also included a meditation practice by Sr. Soumeya Djaffar as well as discussions on the importance of striking a balance and equilibrium with regards to the mind, body and soul which helps one to lead a happy and contented life, ensures growth as an individual and secures one’s mental peace and wellbeing.
We wish to thank all the ladies for attending and contributing positively during the session and hope that with the skills achieved you will raise awareness of the continuing need to make mental health a priority for all people.
We also wish to acknowledge the Africa Federation Secretariat for their encouragement, cooperation and financial support, enabling us to organize such training workshops regularly.
