THREE DAYS TRAINING OF PARTICIPATORY TRAINERS
ON WATER KIOSK OPERATIONS

BACKGROUND
Bilal Kenya has so far installed ten (10) solar powered water desalination plants at its various centres. The plants were supplied by Boreal Light GmbH of Germany in association with WaterKiosk Ltd., Kenya. WaterKiosk Kenya invited water kiosk operators from all over Kenya for further training on water management. The three-day training aimed at building skills of participants in efficiently operating the water kiosks at their respective centres. The training was held in Nairobi from 19th – 21st January,2022. A total of 6 kiosk operators from six Bilal Kenya Centres participated in this training.
TOPICS DISCUSSED:
The Training included various topics such as:
- Introduction to water and solar energy: Properties & sources of water; water treatment; conversion of energy from heat to light; uses of solar power.
- Introduction to customer care, applicable laws & agriculture: How to handle customers through good etiquette; how to maintain customers; how to run a business with efficiency; different types of farming and categories; requirements of farming; how to use water and water waste for farming.
- Introduction to practical training: How water flows from the source to the end product; usage of each of the valves in the system; how to fix filters; how to do a backwash on sand and carbon filters.
The training methodology was interactive as the trainers ensured that knowledge was not only disseminated but accurately perceived and understood by participants. In order to ensure this, trainers engaged participants in discussions and kept the forum open for feedback, queries and suggestions.
TRAINING OBJECTIVES
The objectives of this three-day training were as follows: –
- To increase the understanding of participants on the concept water and its usage.
- To educate participants about the current water kiosk project & how to run it smoothly.
- To enhance concept of using water for agriculture and farming, solar power energy and water pumping for economic benefits.
- To create awareness for further development of community progress
The practical sessions ended at 4.30 p.m. with few words of thanks from Sister Medina followed by some of the trainers. Certificates were given to the participants in acknowledgement upon the completion of their training.
