In an exceptional moment of national significance, the Khoja Shia Ithna-Asheri Community celebrates the extraordinary recognition of one of its eminent members, Alhaj Dr. Mohamed Hussein Abdulla Jaffer.
On the 20th of October 2023, The President of the Republic of Kenya, His Excellency Dr. William Samoei Ruto, C.G.H., bestowed upon Alhaj Dr. Mohamed Hussein Jaffer the highly esteemed National Heroes Citation of Honour and Certificate of Declaration of Hero, marking a momentous occasion that has filled the community with immense pride and joy.
Dr. Mohamed Hussein Jaffer was born on 10th March 1948 in Mombasa, Kenya. He is married with 3 children (2 boys and 1 girl), 6 Grandsons and 1 Granddaughter.
This distinguished award recognizes the outstanding contributions of Alhaj Dr. Mohamed Jaffer to Kenya in the fields of Entrepreneurship and Industry, effectively designating him as a National Hero. Mohamed bhai has exhibited exceptional dedication and service to his community and nation, further solidifying his status as a luminary figure in Kenya.
In addition to the National Heroes Citation, Mohamed bhai has also received several other accolades in the past. Notably, on the 12th of January 2019, the United Graduate College & Seminary International conferred upon him an Honorary Doctorate of Philosophy in Humanities (PhD) and the prestigious Peace Award, recognizing his commitment to promoting peace and harmony.
Furthermore, Mohamed bhai was honored with the World Civility Leadership Award by iChange Nation (ICN), cementing his legacy as a leader dedicated to fostering civility and cooperation in society.
Mohamed bhai’s extensive record of service extends to his community in various capacities within the Mombasa Jamaat and the Africa Federation. He currently holds the esteemed positions of Chairman and Trustee of the Jaffer Foundation Charitable Trust, an organization at the forefront of philanthropic efforts, with a primary focus on water, health, and education projects to uplift communities in the Coast region.
In addition to his philanthropic endeavors, Mohamed bhai is a founder, trustee, and active member of various clubs and organizations in Kenya, exemplifying his commitment to the betterment of society.
Currently, he serves as the Chairman of the Khoja Shia Ithna-Asheri Jamaat of Mombasa, where his leadership continues to make a profound impact to the development and progress of the community.
Throughout his journey, Mohamed bhai has received numerous prestigious awards in Kenya, further highlighting his dedication and service to his country. In 2000, he was honored with the “Order of the Burning Spear” (MBS), and in 2012, he received the title of “Elder of the Burning Spear” (EBS).


He was also bestowed the prestigious Haidery Medal by the Chairman of Africa Federation, Alhaj Shabir Najafi during the Africa Federation Ordinary Conference held Mombasa in April 2019 for his long, honorary and exemplary services to the wider community and to the Africa Federation.
