The Chairman of Africa Federation, Alhaj Amine Nassor is pleased to announce the appointment of the Bilal Muslim Mission of Uganda (BMMU) Team for the remainder of the term 2022 – 2025 headed by Alhaj Afzalali Bhimani as the Chairman of BMMU. BMMU like all other Bilal Muslim Missions of Tanzania, Kenya, Rwanda and Malawi reports to the Central Bilal Board of AFED, whose current Chairman is Alhaj Mohamed P. Hemani.
Following are brief profiles of the new members of BMMU.
Br. Afzalali Bhimani – Chairman (Pictured Centre) Born into a family deeply rooted in the principles of faith and humanitarianism, Afzalali bhai is a man whose life has been defined by his unwavering commitment to serving his community and spreading the message of Ahlulbayt (‘A). From a young age, he has been immersed in the spirit of service and has held several key positions in various community organizations, reflecting his dedication to serving the needs of his community.
Right from an early age he has been contributing to local Imambargahs in Mumbai to being the Treasurer of KSIJ Kigali, Asst Mukhi for KSIJ Kampala from 2020 – 2022 as well as being a core Member of Bilal Madrassah for Youth Boys in Kampala. In his role as the Tabligh head of the Bilal Muslim Organization Uganda (BMOU) since 2021, Afzalali bhai has taken the initiative to spread the teachings and values of the Ahlulbayt (‘A) to far and wide areas of Uganda, as he understood that the ultimate objective of tabligh is to help people connect with Allah (swt) through the teachings and principles of the Ahlulbayt (‘A).
Br. Qasim Bhimani – Hon. Treasurer (Pictured second from left) a dedicated professional with a wealth of experience in administration and property management. He has spent 2.5 years working at KSIJ Kampala, where he served as an administrator and property manager. In this role, he provided invaluable support to the Hon. Treasurer and worked closely with the finance team, demonstrating his strong financial acumen and attention to detail. Furthermore, he has been an active member of the KSIJ in Kampala, where he has enthusiastically participated in various events, further strengthening his ties with the community and contributing to the cultural and social fabric of the organization.
Br Syed Ali Riaz Administrator cum Secretary (Pictured first from Right) has pursued his education at the esteemed Islamic seminary in Qom, Iran, where he dedicated two years in studies. His academic journey has equipped him with a strong foundation in Islamic knowledge, enabling him to effectively deliver lectures and impart teachings within community. He has served as a dedicated Bilal volunteer, demonstrating a strong sense of responsibility and compassion. Additionally, he has played a vital role as a Madressa teacher, sharing his knowledge and nurturing the spiritual growth of students. His volunteer work for “Who is Hussain” highlights his dedication to promoting social values and compassion exemplified by Imam Hussain (‘A).
Br. Hasnain Ali Hyder (Pictured Fourth from Right) holds a Diploma in software management with an experience of over 11 years in IT field. He works as an IT professional providing a range of advisory services in his field. His community services include serving as the Secretary to Education Board of KSIJ Kampala for the past 5 years and also has been part of executive committee of Kampala Jamaat for the past 8 years. He also served as interim Assistant treasurer in Bilal Muslim Organization Uganda for a brief period.
Br. Shabbir Kassamali (Pictured First from Left) is currently working as an Operations Manager in Kampala, Uganda. He has served in various capacities in Mombasa Jamaat since his youth, helping as a volunteer at the mosque and in the Security Committee, as well as volunteering for various Bilal activities. He is currently the Joint Secretary of Kampala Jamaat, chairs the Security committee, and volunteers in various charitable organizations. He also served as Head of Security and Transport during the 86th Supreme Council meeting in Kampala. He heads the Transport Committee of the Who is Hussain Uganda.
Br. Shayaan Morvi (Pictured third from Right) is a dedicated volunteer who has been actively involved in volunteer work from a young age. He has a long history of serving in various capacities within the mosque and other community organizations, showcasing a strong commitment of helping others. Shayaan’s passion for community service is evident through his continued involvement in charitable activities and his willingness to take on leadership roles, making a positive impact on those around him. In addition to these roles, he has also been serving for several years in the Mawkib in Karbala, highlighting his deep-rooted commitment to both his local and wider religious community.
Br. Shabir Najafi – Trustee (Pictured Third from left) born in Kampala, Uganda. A successful businessman; has demonstrated unwavering commitment to community service spanning several decades, where he assumed various pivotal roles. A few of the positions he has held are Chairman of the Africa Federation for the terms of 2016 – 2019 and 2019 – 2022, Vice Chairman for AFED for the terms of 2010 – 2013 and 2013 – 2016. Prior to his leadership positions at AFED, he served Kampala Jamaat as its Chairman for two terms from 1996 -1998 and from 2004 – 2006 and was the Jamaat Vice Chairman from 1993 to 1996. He has also been a councilor of the WF for several years. Shabir bhai played a pivotal role in founding the first Bilal Muslim Organization of Uganda (BMOU).
Br. Asim Morvi – Trustee (Pictured second from Right) a resident of Kampala, Uganda for an extensive period, has been engaged in diverse business ventures such as real estate, farming, and agro-processing of macadamia nuts. Throughout his tenure, he has actively participated in philanthropic endeavors, focusing on projects aimed at assisting the less fortunate, including orphanage homes, water wells, and various charitable activities in Uganda.
In the realm of Tabligh, Asim Bhai demonstrates a profound commitment to promoting and disseminating the Madh’hab of Ahlul Bayt (‘A) among the local population in Uganda. He has notably served as the Chairman of Bilal Muslim Organization of Uganda for a significant duration, wholeheartedly contributing to its various initiatives.
As a dedicated member of the KSI Jamaat of Kampala, Asim Bhai has undertaken various roles, serving as the Vice President of the Kampala Jamaat and heading the HVC – The Volunteer Corp of the Jamaat. Furthermore, he held the position of Trustee at KSIJ, demonstrating his commitment to responsible oversight and stewardship within the organization. His selfless service and philanthropy extend beyond our immediate community, reflecting his commitment to making a positive impact on a wider spectrum.
