In an age where personal and professional advancement is crucial, the importance of self-development programs are significant. These transformative endeavors act as guiding lights, helping individuals navigate the intricate paths of self-discovery and providing them with essential tools to navigate the complexities of leadership in our rapidly changing world. The successful completion of a leadership development program signifies a pinnacle in one’s personal and professional journey, symbolizing a profound exploration of self-cultivation and expertise.
In today’s dynamic society, these programs assume a heightened significance, serving as crucibles for indispensable knowledge and skills crucial for effective leadership. The focus extends beyond mere instruction, passionately urging participants to explore their strengths and pinpoint areas for improvement. This approach fosters self-awareness and enhances emotional intelligence. The committed investment in personal development not only equips participants to navigate challenges but also empowers them to inspire others and catalyze meaningful transformations.
A recent highlight in this realm was the successful conclusion of the 18th Leadership Development Program (LDP) conducted by the Africa Federation Capacity Building Group (CBG). This transformative event, held from December 13th to 16th, 2023, was hosted by the Bilal Muslim Mission of Kenya where a cohort of 25 Muballigheen from Bilal Kenya embarked on a remarkable journey of self-discovery facilitated by CBG Chair and LDP Lead Facilitator Br. Shabbirhussein Khalfan and ably supported by his dynamic team comprising Sr. Neelam Jiwa, Br. Mohamedabbas Karim, Sr. Maryam Khalfan and Sr. Sajida Master.
What set this edition apart is that it was conducted entirely in Swahili, adding a unique and culturally resonant dimension to the immersive experience. The decision to conduct the LDP in Swahili not only embraced cultural diversity but also added a layer of excitement and connection to the participants’ experiences. This linguistic choice served to enhance program accessibility, fostering deeper connection and understanding. Together, the team concluded a program that empowered participants to unlock latent potential and elevate leadership capabilities to new heights.
During an invigorating and thought-provoking four-day program, participants immersed themselves into a diverse array of interactive workshops, engaging discussions, and hands-on activities. Practical exercises and real-world case studies provided them with significant insights into effective leadership strategies and techniques.
The program not only fostered a collaborative and learning-oriented setting, encouraging participants to exchange ideas, perspectives, and best practices, but it also highlighted a pivotal insight. It surpassed the traditional concept of leaders confined to formal positions, underscoring that leadership skills hold relevance and influence even within the personal spheres of participants. Whether within familial, social, or community circles, the program recognized the indispensable role individuals play as leaders, championing personal growth, and emphasizing the importance of integrity, empathy, and effective communication in these diverse contexts.
Empowered with a renewed sense of purpose and armed with an arsenal of tools acquired during the program, participants emerged not just prepared but eager to catalyze positive change in their unique domains. The program acted as a transformative catalyst for their leadership journeys, bestowing upon them the ability to initiate impactful transformations and stand as beacons of inspiration for others.
In essence, the LDP for Bilal Kenya proved to be a truly transformative journey. This Swahili-infused LDP went beyond conventional boundaries, pioneering a novel approach in leadership development by establishing a profound connection through language. The immersive experience in Swahili not only added cultural richness to the program but also emphasized the commitment to inclusivity and reaching a wider audience. The impact of this transformative event extends far beyond its conclusion, as the now-empowered participants stand ready to initiate positive change in their respective spheres.
The 18th LDP serves as a testament to the influence of diversity, language, and dedicated leadership development, leaving an enduring mark on the individuals and the communities they are destined to impact.
The closing and certification ceremony was held on Saturday 13th December 2023 and was attended by the AFED Representatives, Office Bearers and Officials from Mombasa Jamaat and Officials from Bilal Muslim Mission of Kenya.

- It was indeed an excellent program. We aspire to integrate general leadership skills into various aspects of our lives. We are dedicated to giving back to our community everything we gained from this program, ensuring others can benefit from this outstanding initiative.
- One particular aspect that appealed to me was the topic of the ice-berg. It made me realize that a person’s behavior must have a reason with regards to his environment and upbringing. From now on, I will be attentive and considerate of the people around me.
- The facilitators succeeded in broadening our mindset with diverse perspectives, and I am confident that we will leave here as profoundly changed individuals. You have impacted our lives!
- As ambassadors of our community, it is our responsibility to convey this message home. We must share with others the idea that our potential is limitless.
- I learned that true leadership involves cultivating people, having a clear plan for personal development, and imparting the same to others.
- Through the balloon activity, we illustrated the power of teamwork. We discovered that if we join our arms together setting aside petty differences, we can progress as a community.
- This program instilled real awareness within us. In the words of Swahili, “Ilikuwa tumelala – lakini sasa tumeamka” – we were in slumber, but now we are aware and mindful.
