Bilal Muslim Mission of Tanzania (BMMT) is pleased to announce the completion of the renovation of infrastructures at Kilwa Centre in Lindi. This major renovation began in October 2022 and completed in July 2023. Rehabilitations were done at the mosque building, the teacher’s house, the madrasa building and the construction of new washroom facilities. The renovation also involved the installation of water pump, water tank, water system, installation of electricity infrastructure in all buildings, as well as interior and exterior decoration (painting).
Kilwa centre is one of the oldest centers established by Khoja Shia Ithna-Asheri community in the Southern Tanzania.
Unfortunately, due migration between 1960s – 1980s, many of these centres remained unutilized and eventually handed over to Bilal. Other centres are Nachingwea, Mtama, Tunduru, Bagamoyo, Tabora, Kasulu, and Mingoyo all of them are currently under the supervision of Bilal Tanzania. Lindi, Songea and Mikindani still has Khoja members.

This project was funded by various donors through Africa Federation (AFED). In addition, BMMT has received other funding from individual donors, which were used to renovate Mtama and Mingoyo mosques facilities. Nachingwea Mosque was brought down and a new one was built.
We welcome other donors and well-wishers to support us in the renovation of Bagamoyo mosque facility, which needs roofing replacement due to erosion and leakage.
BMMT would like to express its sincere thanks to Africa Federation and all donors for their support leading to this success. Allah will reward them amply, Ameen.
