On June 1, 2024, a delegation from The Mainstay Foundation-UK (TMF-UK), led by TMF Trustee and Founder Syed Hassan al-Hakim and accompanied by Alhaj Yasser Bashar, met with the beneficiaries of the TMF Education Support Scheme in Dar es Salaam. The meeting was held at the Africa Federation (AFED) Training Centre and was hosted by the Bilal Muslim Mission of Tanzania (BMMT).
The event was attended by several BMMT board members, including Chairman Alhaj Hussein Karim, Vice Chairman Alhaj Abdul-Wahid Mohammed, Chief of Operations Br. Hafidhi Mansour, Head of Tabligh Sheikh Msabaha Mapinda, Chairman of the BMMT Coastal and Southern Region Alhaj AzizHussein Rajani, Project Manager Sis. Nasra Salehe, undergraduate student beneficiaries, and other invited guests.
The event began with the recitation of the Qur’an by Br. Ali-Haidary Abdul-Wahid Mohammed, followed by an opening speech from Alhaj Hussein Karim. In his speech, Alhaj Hussein Karim introduced The Mainstay Foundation delegation to the beneficiaries and explained the purpose of the event.
The students had the opportunity to introduce themselves and briefly discuss the impact of the TMF Education Support Scheme on their educational journeys, as well as the various challenges they are facing.

In his speech, Syed Hassan al Hakim expressed his gratitude to BMMT for organizing the event. He also appreciated the students for rearranging their weekend schedules to attend. He mentioned that TMF undertakes various programs in collaboration with BMMT and other organizations worldwide, with the goal of helping Shia communities, such as those in Tanzania, thrive in the education and economic sectors. He emphasized that these efforts aim to eventually improve Shia communities globally.
Following his speech, Alhaj Abdul-Wahid Mohammed expressed his thanks and emphasized that in addition to economic and educational success, Shia communities should also strive to improve their akhlaq (good manners), which is lacking in many communities.
Alhaj Abdul-Wahid’s speech was followed by the recitation of Dua Al’Hujjah led by Sheikh Msabaha Mapinda. The Master of Ceremony, Br. Hafidhi Mansour, ensured the event proceeded smoothly.
The TMF Education Support Scheme, funded by TMF and implemented in collaboration with BMMT, sponsors Shia youth at various educational levels—vocational education, certificate, diploma, and bachelor’s degree—by providing study loans to support their educational journeys. Since its inception in the 2022/2023 academic year, a total of 307 students had benefited by the end of the 2023/2024 academic year.
Once again, BMMT thanked TMF for its continued collaboration in this and other projects. They also urged all beneficiaries to invest their energy in achieving the project’s goals and to repay the loans honestly so that the funds can be used to support other needy individuals.
