The Africa Federation 16th Annual Qur’an Competition (QC16) organized by the Tabligh Board (AFTAB) was hosted by the KSI Jamaat of Dar es Salaam from 21st to 24th July 2022 and was held at the Khoja Shia Ithna-asheri Mosque Complex.
The Qur’an Competition which is organized annually to inspire and motivate the participants to recite, ponder and reflect on the verses of the Holy Qur’an was organized after a break of two years due to the Covid 19 Pandemic.
This year’s Qur’an Competition was held in memory of Marhum Sayed Hassan Naqvi who was the Chairman of the Board and passed away in February 2021. A total of 262 Participants including the first-time participants from Kinshasa, the Democratic Republic of Congo attended. Participants were accompanied by Parents, Teachers and Guardians, to motivate and applaud their achievements.
This year’s Ma’arifah category was based on the Ma’arifah of the Infallibles.
The opening ceremony was held on Thursday 21st July after the Wafaat of the sons of Hazrat Muslim (‘a). Amongst those who were present were the Ulamas, Dar-es-Salaam Jamaat Hon Secretary, Aftab Chairman, Representatives of the participating Jamaats/Madrasahs, participants with their parents/ guardians and Community Members.
A welcome speech was delivered by the host Jamaat Hon. Secretary, Alhaj Husseinali Datoo on behalf of the President Alhaj Mohamedraza Dewji who spoke about the rewards of Qur’an recitation and to always keep the teachings of the Quran and the Ahlulbayt close to heart so as not to deviate from the straight path. Br Jaffer Ali, Member of the Convening Team of Dar-es-Salaam Jamaat welcomed all the participants and offered assistance with anything they may need. The judges also addressed the gathering and spoke on the methodology of markings and answered questions from the participants and /or their representatives.

The Closing Ceremony was held at the Mosque Complex on Sunday 24th July 2022, and was attended by the AFED Office Bearers, Ulamas, community members, Madrasah Teachers, students, participants and Invited guests.
The Head of the convening team, Dr. Mohamed Shabbir, shared best practices to promote Qur’an recitation used by the Dar-es-Salaam Jamaat that can be implemented in all Jamaats.
AFED Chairman, Alhajj Amine Nassor, congratulated all the winners and the organizing team for arranging such a grand program. He prayed to Allah SWT to reward the past AFED Chairman Marhum Zulfikar Khimji for initiating the competition and Marhum Syed Hasan Naqvi for taking it to the next level. He requested AFTAB to put in more efforts and take it to even higher levels. He said it was a pleasure for him to attend such an amazing Qur’an Competition which was full of love for the Holy Qur’an.
The AFTAB Chairman Sajjad bhai Walji presented a token of Appreciation to Fatim bai Somji, the Head of the Quran Competition and Br. Fadhil Alishan, the Head of the Marketing team of AFED, for their dedication towards the Competition. Fatim bai Somji has been heading the past eight competitions, which has grown in number of participants and also has motivated Jamaats to uphold their own competitions.
AFTAB Chairman thanked the Dar es Salaam Jamaat and the convening team for hosting an amazing event. He also recognized the efforts put in by the Teachers, Volunteers, Moderators, Logistics, and Media Team for being part of this huge event.
He said AFTAB will create a Qur’an Team that will hold different small events throughout the year and the future Qur’an Competitions will fall under that team.
He ended with sincere appreciation to all the donors who contributed towards the Competition and prayed to Allah (SWT) to bless the Marhumeen of the Sponsors with highest position in Jannah for allowing our children to be part of this journey and to lighten the hearts of all the children with the love for the Qur’an and the Ahlul Bayt (‘A).
