The Education Festival organized by Africa Youth Network (AYN) sponsored by Africa Federation and hosted by the KSI Jamaat of Mombasa is a unique event in the calendar of Africa Youth Network, having previously been held in 2007 and 2009.
The fundamental aim and objective of this venture is to give our youths, male and female, the platform to articulate their talent, skills and intellect and at the same time create for them an environment where by they can learn to live with mutual understanding, develop cordial relations and foster brotherhood.
This program brought together more than eighty (80) youths from Arusha, Dar-es-Salaam, Moshi, Mombasa and Nairobi. We hope more Jamaats would participate in the future events such as this one.
During the Three Day event, the youths participated in public speaking forums such as debates and elocution, which included the exciting Head-to-Head debate, Jeopardy Quiz competition, the nerve-wrecking and brain teasing Olympic Science and Essay writting.
The Chairman of the Education Board of Africa Federation, Al Haj Samir Habib, visited Mombasa along with the Africa Federation Career Counselor Sister Fatima Sherali, who conducted a session on “Youth Focus” for the participants of the Education Festival. AYN continues to collaborate with other Boards of Africa Federation to ensure that the needs of the Youths and the Community at large are continuously addressed.
The Africa Federation Chairman, Alhaj Anwarali Dharamsi, the Hon. Secretary, Alhaj Aunali Khalfan and the Hon. Treasurer, Alhaj Mohamed Hemani and the other dignitaries who were in Mombasa during the same period for other engagements, also attended some of the events of the Education Festival was an inspiration and motivation to the participants and added to the success of the events.
The closing ceremony, which was preceded by exciting debate finals in the gents and ladies, was held on Monday 19th December 2011 at Haidary Imambargha. The aura of the closing night events was filled with excitement as a result of a big turnout of our community members who attended to witness a befitting finale to this momentous event.
“The Education Festival 2011 brought together participants from five Jamaats across East Africa; this showed a display of talents, skills and great potential amongst the Youths of our community. It is my earnest hope that the spirit in which the Education Festival has been organized is carried forward by each Jamaat; wherein the Jamaats nurture and develop the talent in the Youth so that they are capable of leading the community in the years to come..”
Nishathusein Karim – Chairman, Africa Youth Network
