WF – AFED JOINTLY SPONSERS WATER WELLS IN FAMINE STRICKEN REGIONS OF KENYA
The World Federation launched an appeal for the ‘East Africa Famine Crisis’ in August 2011 in response to the famine crisis in East Africa. The World Federation provided funds which were donated generously by our community members towards this humanitarian assistance and Africa Federation is overseeing the logistics and also managing the financial of this project.
Water, a necessity of life is very scarcely available to the communities around East Africa especially the drought hit areas of Kenya. The World Federation and Africa Federation jointly decided to provide water wells/boreholes for the communities in these areas who are badly affected by drought.
The AFED Office in Mombasa through with the co-operation of Health and Education Programmes (CHEPS) has contracted out for digging 20 Water-Wells in the famine stricken areas of Kenya on behalf of the World Federation and Africa Federation.
Below are some photographs of the Water-Wells that were dug in different villages; this will provide the peasants and their families fresh water for their day to day needs.
AFED continues to survey areas that are in need of such basic amenity, and we shall continue to support the humanitarian assistance to the people who are hard hit by droughts and conflicts.
We wish to thank Dr. Muhsin Sheriff of CHEPS in Nairobi for his cooperation and assistance in organizing the construction of the wells. Dr. Muhsin has been working closely with AFED office in Mombasa on the project.
