The Chairman of the Africa Federation, Alhaj Anwarali Dharamsi is pleased to appoint Alhaj Murtaza Ramzanali Jivraj (Kerbala) as the Sectional Secretary of the Africa Federation Archives Section.
The Archives section is an important segment of the Secretariat of the Africa Federation where records and history of our community is preserved for references and for the future generations.
With the support from some community members and Jamaats, we have also been able to gather some old documents, photographs and articles on the historical events, some of these are being published regularly by Archives Section.
Brief Profile:
Murtaza bhai was born in 1946 in Kigoma, Tanzania. He pursued his primary education before moving to Dar-es-Salaam where he completed his secondary education at Azania Secondary School in 1964.
On completion of his education he joined the Ministry of Statistics Department of Census in 1967 and was transferred to the Town Planning Department upon completion of the Census assignment. He moved to Mwanza in 1971 where he started his own business of Vehicle Spares Parts and Hardware.
In 1975, Murtaza Bhai moved to Dar-es-Salaam where he worked for Elite Photographic East Africa Ltd. In 1984 he established his own business Geo-Mirco and Photo Equipment Ltd. and successfully developed the company and expanded to include Sciencescope International Ltd.
He has served in various fields and sectors providing voluntary services, fund raising programs within and outside the community since from a young age. Below are some of the positions he had occupied:
- Secretary, Khoja Shia Ithna-Asheri Jamaat of Kigoma
- A Member of Tanu Youth League in Kigoma
- Chairman, Ithna-Asheri Union Volunteers Corps (IUVC) – Dar-es-Salaam
- Principal, Husayni Madrassah – Dar-es-Salaam
- Chairman, Bilal Muslim Mission of Tanzania.
- Member of Dsm Jamaat Juloos Committee for 35 years.
The Ithna-Asheri Union of Dar es Salaam granted him Life Membership in 1999 in recognition of his devoted services to the Community.
Murtaza bhai has great interest in the history of our community; he also has a big personal collection of wide-ranging photographs of different Jamaats, Mosques, Imambarghas, people and occasions, which he has been collecting for many years.
