Alhamdulillah, we are blessed to once again witness the season when the Shia Community commemorate the event of the great martyrdom of Imam Hussain (AS), that took place in Karbala, Iraq in 61 A.H.
Reflection and Reformation
This month provides us an opportunity to reflect on the teachings of the Holy Prophet (SAWW) and his Progeny (AS) and understand the objective of the Mission of Imam Hussain (AS) who when leaving Madinah on 28th Rajab 60 A.H. is quoted to have said: “Wa Innama Kharajtu li talabil Islahi fi ummaati jaddi” (Indeed, I am leaving [Madinah] to reform the Ummah of my grandfather).
We as a community and each individual should take it upon each one of us to try and bring some reformation positively in our own selves during this period of mourning which will collectively bring a change in our community and society at large. We should also endeavor to reach out to people of different faiths and beliefs and discuss on this tragic event and the sacrifices Imam Hussain (AS) and his companions gave in order to save Islam and guide fellow Muslims to the right path.
Charles Dickens an English novelist has said that – “If Husain had fought to quench his worldly desires…then I do not understand why his sister, wife, and children accompanied him. It stands to reason therefore, that he sacrificed purely for Islam.”
Let us all make efforts to prepare ourselves to answer the call of our present Imam (ATFS) who will make a similar call that Imam Hussain (AS) made on the Day of Ashura when he was left alone on the battlefield “Hal Min Naasirin Yansuruna, (Is there helpers who will help us?) “Hal Min Mughitheen Yughithuna” (Is there those who will answer our call for aid?)
Appeal
Let us all jointly commemorate the Ayyame Aza peacefully and be mindful of the rights of our fellow brethren, our actions should be that which will bring people closer to the teachings of the Ahlulbayt (AS) and the important message of the tragedy of Kerbala.
I take this opportunity to appeal to the members of our community to contribute and support generously towards the various programs and events organized during the months of Muharram and Safar in our Constituent Jamaats and in our Tabligh Institution – The Bilal Muslim Missions at their various Centres located in several parts of the countries and in the villages.
You may send your contributions and religious dues to the Africa Federation Secretariat office in Dar es Salaam for distribution.
KERBALA MODEL PROJECT BY THE 5TH SHIA BOYS SCOUT TROOP OF DSM
Like every year, the Boys Scouts, a section of Ithna-Asheri Union of Dar es Salaam Jamaat demonstrates the Kerbala Model, a unique project that attracts many people and the general public who are keen to know about the tragedy of Kerbala, this is one way of doing Tabligh and spreading the message of Imam Hussain (AS).
The Boys Scouts put great efforts and time to prepare this Project, they also have volunteers who are well trained to provide information and answer questions from the public who visit the Project.
The project was officially opened by the Dar Es Salaam Jamaat President, Alhaj Azim bhai Dewji on 2nd night of Muharram 1440 A.H. The model is located opposite Mehfil-e-Abbas (AS) and open to all. We request our community members, ladies and gents to visit the Project and encourage our youth.
SUPPLICATIONS
Let us pray to Allah (SWT) that He grants us all an opportunity to visit the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussain (AS) and the Shrines of the Holy progeny, and the faithful companions of the Holy Prophet (SAWW) and Ahlulbayt (AS).
Let us pray for the safety and protection of the Shrines of the holy personalities which have come under attack in the recent times.
Let us all remember the oppressed people of the world wherever they are and pray for freedom from oppression, for their safety, peace and wellbeing.
